Once again, apologies for another gap in communications from my side. On the previous Sunday, i.e. 6th May, Nalin ji presented his program ‘Yaadon Ka Safar’ here in Delhi. The program lasted for about four and half hours, with a break in between. ‘Yaasmeen’, a film from 1955 is well known for some wonderful gems coming from the pen of Jaan Nisaar Akhtar and the music composition by C Ramchandra. The film has ten songs out of which four are already represented on this blog, including the evergreen iconic rendering of “Bechain Nazar Betaab Jigar” by Talat Mehmood, and “Mujh Pe Ilzaam e Bewafaai Hai” by Lata Mangeshkar. Here is the fifth offering from this film – another iconic song that would qualify for the tag ‘how come this song was not posted earlier’.

During my four decades of sojourn with old Hindi films songs, I have come across many admirers of such songs among my friends, office colleagues and also within my family circle. There were categories of admirers in terms of period songs, fans of some singers, lyricists. music directors etc. There was one more category of admirers who outscored other categories in terms of numbers. Members of this group, while being admirers of popular old Hindi film songs of golden era, were by and large ignorant of other details of the songs especially names of music directors and lyricists. I also noted that out of these details, they were least interested in knowing the names of lyricists.
