NAGAD NARAYAN (1943) was produced in Hindi and Marathi by Baburao Pendharkar under the banner of New Huns Pictures. The Marathi title of the film was ‘Paisa Bolto Aahe’ (1943). Both the versions of the films were directed by Vishram Bedekar. The star cast in the Hindi version included Leela Desai, Baburao Pendharkar, Kusum Deshpande, Nayampalli, Masood, Pratima Devi, Shakir etc.

Today 24th May 2025 is the seventieth birthday of music director-lyricist Rajesh Roshan(born on 24.05.1955). His music composed for Hindi movies is part of growing years of people like me who were born in late sixties or early seventies. Many of his compositions have been pure nostalgia for me and same might be the case for many people like me. Rajesh Roshan has carved a niche for himself in the history of Hindi Film Music. There is a long list of his compositions that I like very much, and as and when possible I have also shared such songs on this blog.

‘Ek Gunaah Aur Sahee’ (1980) was produced and directed by Yogi Kathuria under the banner of Dayali Films International. The cast included Sunil Dutt and Parveen Babi in lead roles supported by Madan Puri, Gulshan Arora, Brahmachari, Ved Sharma, Manhar Desai, Sabina, Paul Kanwar etc. This was the only film Yogi Kathuria produced and directed.

Today’s song is from a family drama social film- Ghar ki Laaj-1941.
The film was produced and directed by V.M.Vyas, for his own banner- Sunshine Pictures, Bombay.The music was by an old-timer, Annasaheb Mainkar, but I find that in this film, he tried to adapt to the changing styles of the film music of the times !. The cast of the film was Shanta Hublikar, Nazir Ahmed, Jagdish Sethi ( in the credits, his B.A. is written prominently), Kalyani, Kaushalya, Majid, Daya devi (mother of actress Kaushalya, in real life), Hadi etc.

Yesterday 13th May 2025 was the seventy-nineth birthday of Shree Bishwanath Chatterjee compiler of Hindi Film Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980).
This post is delayed on my part as I could not finish it yesterday. Earlier I had planned to visit to Nagpur for this special occasion, but it could not happen. I had spoken to our common friend Mr Avinash Shravane at Nagpur, and we thought that few likeminded friends would also attend this function. But it did not materialize. However, few friends did arrange some program as informed to me by Mr Chatterjee himself, when I called him to wish him on his birthday yesterday. (I am yet to get the updates about the function held yesterday, so that may be covered later 😊).

The film Ghar ki Rani-1940 was made by Huns Pictures of master Vinayak. It was directed by him. This was a Bi-lingual film, made in Marathi as Ardhangi( अर्धांगी ) or Better half and in Hindi. The cast was Leela Chitnis, Vinayak, Meenakshi, Kusum Deshpande, Baburao Pendharkar, Damuanna Malvankar, Dada Salvi etc. The music was by Dada Chandekar.
