Yaad kiya dil ne kahaan ho tum

It is a very old song, but very much a gold standard song. I have listened to this song for a long time and liked it very much. Sung by Hemant Kumar and Lata, this is such a lovely “chayageet” kind of song, ideal listening at sleep times, though one can enjoy it anytime, as befits any timeless song, which it certainly is.

Filmfare best male singer awards began in 1960. Mukesh was the first winner for Anari, and then Rafi won it for the next two years for “Chaudhvin ka chaand” and “Sasuraal”. Then there was no award for 1963. The 1964 award was won by a new voice, viz Mahendra Kapoor for Gumrah (1963). What amazingly great lyrics he could conjure up ! And he had a very good understanding with his music directors. No doubt, Gulzar and Khayyam came up with some soul stirring numbers in this movie.

This song from “Professor” is shot on outdoor locations, perhaps in Kashmir (Correction- in Darjeeling, as pointed out by Shontou). The song is sung by Rafi and is picturised on Shammi Kapoor. The rolypoly heroine, Kalpana is also there in this song and she appears rather sore at Shammi Kapoor throughout the song. It seems to me that Shammi kapoor’s charms seem to have cut no ice with her in this song.

What are the odds of you walking on a beach and stumbling upon gems every few steps ? Well, I have been exploring Bollywood music and I am coming across gems after gems. In some cases, I at least knew the names of the movies, and in some cases, I was not even aware about the name of the movie. And when I listen to these songs, I am amazed to find that these songs are lying forgotten.
