BADALTE HUYE SAATHI- Episode No. 6 (Hamida Bano sings with Shyamkumar)
—————————————————————————-

When I planned this series I knew that this subject is very vast and it was not possible to cover all major singers in such a short series. According to a source, from 1931 to year 2000, a total of about 7000 actors (male and Female) acted in Hindi Films in small and big roles. There must be atleast 1500 well known actors and the pity is, we do not have complete information on even 500 actors. For majority of actors, there are no Photographs ( remember, for a considerable time, how difficult it was to get a photograph of Shamshad begum or Madhubala Jhaveri ? ). So we know nothing about them except their names.

Badalte Huye Saathi- Episode 4 (Geeta Roy sings with Surendra)

Nature has its own rules. One of the rules is,’Old must make a way for the New’. Man has understood this. Holy books of practically all major religions of the world echo the same thought-” The old order changeth for the New….”

Badalte Huye Saathi – Episode 3 (Khursheed Bano- Surendra)
————————————
Khursheed, who dominated the 40s with her memorable songs, was about to leave India for Pakistan, after partition. By that time, she had become a major singing star of the industry and was singing with other major singing stars of that time. In the previous article, A rising Khursheed sang with a fading Vasanti. Badalte Huye Saathi- Episode 2 (Khursheed Bano and Vasanti)
———————————

We have seen, in the First episode of this series, how the initial Hindi film music was influenced by the local conditions. Same was the position for films made in Calcutta during that period. These film songs were totally influenced-nay depended on the Robindra Sangeet and the Nazrul geeti etc.

Badalte Huye Saathi- Episode 1 (Shanta Apte and Vasanti)
———————————

Music is an inseparable part of Indian culture. Music rules our lives. Right from Birth to Death, there is always music going on in the lives of Indians. So, it was no wonder that when silent films started talking, they also started singing. The very first Talkie film of India, Aalam Ara-1931 had 7 songs in it. The very fact that the producers felt the need to include songs in the film, underlines the importance of music in the lives of the movie goers.

When I plan to write an article for any series or a song, I ensure that I gather more than necessary material,so that I can select the desired material from that.In such exercises, many times I come across some unusual songs-in the sense that sometimes the singer is uncommon,or the theme of the song is different,or the composer is special or even the song is too obscure but needs an exposure. In such cases,I keep these songs in the ‘Draft’ section of my computer,to be used in future, at an appropriate time.

Today, I feel like shri Vitthalpant Kulkarni-father of Sant Gyaneshwar (Dnyaneshwar)-who had come back to Grihasthashram from his Sanyas. He came back to this material world, on the instructions of his Guru, as he was destined to give birth to the Saint.
