We all know that Mohammed Rafi Sb is the one playback who had many singers copying and imitating his singing style during his lifetime. After his passing away, the tendency only increased. There are a few shining examples like Sonu Nigam who started with Rafi Sb’s style and made a name for themselves. He is, in my view, closely followed by Udit Narayan and Mohammed Aziz. During the 1970s, when Rafi Sb was alive, there was Anwar who reportedly trained under him, and Rafi Sb himself regarded him highly. All these singers strived to imitate the inimitable Rafi magic.

I think it is time to go back to the pavillion, meaning my comfort zone. Or I should say my favourite comfort zone of Rafi songs. I have been ‘ beating about the bush ‘ for the last one year and writing posts of various series. ‘Chandni raaten’ is still going on, as far as I know. Some songs are lined up for it, but I have not been able to find enough enthusiasm to write a post for some time. This song has over the years been heard here and there. I was aware this is some remix song of an old song, just like the remix of the song ‘Kitni Akeli Kitni Tanhaa Si Lagi‘ from film ‘Talaash’ (1969). I used to think that ‘Kitni Akeli. . . ‘ song was a Kishore Kumar song and remixed. It was many years later that I heard the original Lata Mangeshkar song composed by SD Burman.

I heard this recital by Meena Kumari for the first time ‘ Yoon teri rehguzar se deewana war guzre ‘ when Sudhir Sir’s post appeared in the blog, I was spell bound and could not stop hearing it for days on. The recital was so heart wrenching and full of sadness. I recorded the audio on my mobile and shared with all my friends.

” Ye chand ye sitaare ye raat yaad rakhnaa” from film ” La’al-e-Yaman ” (1956) is the song no. 16 of the series. No songs from this movie are posted in the blog yet, but two songs from the 1933 movie of the same name are presented. This song is written by Kaifi Azmi and composed by AR Qureshi also known as Ustad Allah Rakkha. The recording is not really up to the mark and sounding older than the year of the film. The music is also sounding very period in this qawwali style composition.

In continuation to my post for ‘apne haathon ko pehchaan’ :
There is this bhajan/song which is more a philosophical song from 1989 movie ‘ Bade ghar ki Beti ‘.
Actually it is based on a Meera bhajan, but improvised by the lyricist Santosh Anand and composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Once heard never forgotten kind of song, with its simple words and simple philosophy of contentment and containment.

This is one delightful duet song which talks of ‘chanda ki goad’, ‘ taaron ki chhaaon’ ,’baadal ki oat’ saawan ki raat ‘ and ‘roothna manaana’ and so on and so forth. This is song no. 15 of chaandni raaten series. Rafi sahab is in his elements singing this teasing duet with Chaand Wirk. Chand Wirk is a new name for the blog, which is not surprising as this is her maiden film song according to myswar.com.
