Hullo Atuldom

27th June – a favorite music director, singer and one-time actor would have turned 84. His name at birth was Rahul and his parents were Meera & Sachin Dev Burman. Yes, we are thinking of the music influencer who was active from the 1960s to the 1990s – Rahul Dev Burman who was also fondly addressed as Pancham.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Missing movies of 1973-Hifaazat-23)
——————————————-—————————

Today we pay our tributes to one of the greatest music directors of Hindi Cinema i.e. Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on this day i.e. 27th June, 1939 and passed away on 04th Jaunary, 1994. Had he been alive today he would have turned eighty four years old. But he left us at the age of fifty-five only. In his last days he suffered on both health ground and mentally he was upset for treatment given to him in those troubled days by the industry and peoples around him.

Today I am presenting a song from a lesser known movie where the music was composed by RD Burman. This movie is ‘Hifaazat’ from 1973. This movie is making its debut on the blog today.

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
———————————————————————
Today’s song is from the movie ‘Bandish’ from 1969.

I was not aware of this song till 2018 when I took up to present a write-up on singer Jaspal Singh for the song “Jin Khoja Tin Paayian Gehre Paani Paith” from the movie ‘Paayal Ki Jhankaar’ (1980) which was posted on the blog on 02.04.2018. This article is a part of the series I am presenting on the ‘special voices of the seventies’ and Jaspal Singh is one of those voices. So far I have presented nine posts in this series and there are more yet to come in the future.

Mukesh and his Composers – 26

There are many songs of Mukesh which I avoid listening too often. For every time I listen to them, I like to savour the magic in his voice afresh. Some of such songs are “Aansoo Bhari Hain Ye Jeevan Ki Raahen“, “Jaane Kahaan Gaye Wo Din“, “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye“, “Ye Mera Deewaanapan Hai” and a host of many other songs. I know that the sample of above quoted songs are quite familiar and well-known, but then there are dozens of songs in the 40’s and 50’s which have additional flavor and uniqueness in them. It is extremely difficult to describe in words what effect the mind and soul experience on listening to such songs. Mukesh did sing them for situations in the film. What remains today of these movies is mainly the vocal impulses of his melodious voice.

Today we get introduced to yet another obscure movie of yesteryear of Hindi Cinema or rather from the ‘golden years’ of Hindi Cinema. The movie is ‘Baghaawat’ from 1951.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2013-2023) – Song No.133
————————————————————————————–

On this date ten years ago (20 June 2013), seven songs from seven different movies were covered in the blog. I cannot believe it myself that I was able to cover so many songs in a day, that too when I was posted in a key post where my presence was required round the clock. 🙂

Hullo Atuldom

Logon Ki Zubaan Par Apna Naam Hai Pehla” – this post of mine spoke of how I made it to the Gangout of like-minded HFM lovers who also go by the name ‘Atulites’ of ‘Atuldom’. How Sudhir ji set the ball rolling in the beginning of May and after numerous back-n-forth messages (at that time I was not a party to the discussions) June 2nd was fixed as the date for the Gangout. I was happy that I could attend the Gangout & be a part of the enthusiastic group that is highly knowledgeable about all things related to music – not necessarily only Hindi Films, especially finding new information & saving it up for posterity.

Hullo Atuldom

19th June is the birthday of actor Raj Kiran. He will be 73 today.

Recently I saw Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Arth’ (1982) and I thought such a good-looking person. He was playing the part of Raj who falls in love with the recently jilted Pooja (Shabana Azmi); that was an odd pairing. But they looked good together. Raj Kiran had made his debut in 1975 through BR Ishara’s ‘Kaagaz Ki Nao’ with Sarika as his co-star. His next release was ‘Shiksha’ (1978) which was directed by S Ramanathan. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya – meaning Rajshri productions.

Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Darling Darling-1977)
——————————————-——————————————

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Darling Darling’ (1977). Going by the Censor Board Certificate dated 11.05.1977 of this movie, I was just over nine years old when this movie must have been released. But I did not get to watch this movie then and I do not remember to have watched it later elsewhere. This movie had few good songs and they happen to be played frequently on loud-speakers then. Particularly I think the title song of this movie was heard more than other songs then. To me this song was an irritating song then. We as children were even shy to say the word ‘darling’ because we thought it was ‘ultra-modern’ type word for children like us who were studying in small village school. 🙂

The decade of the 1950s was a time when, having got our independence in 1947, the whole nation was now busy reconstructing our country to our choice. This was the time when family values, importance of joint families, religion, law and order, Nehru’s socialistic pattern etc. were being reestablished. With all this, the turmoil in the society could not be isolated. It had its effects on the social atmosphere, markets, businesses, housing and of course the films.
