Today 9th January’2022 is eighty-eighth birth anniversary of singer Mahendra Kapoor.
He was born on 9th January’1934 and passed away on 27th September’2008.
We remember him on this occasion and pay our tributes by listening to a song sung by him here on this blog. I am a big fan, if not a great fan, of Mahendra Kapoor songs.

Today’s song is from the 1969 movie ‘Sambandh’. I was aware of this ‘title’ since my childhood and I mainly associated this movie with its song ‘Chal Akelaa Chal Akelaa Chal Akelaa, Tera Mela Peechhe Chhoota Raahi Chal Akelaa’. I have a big nostalgia of this song, and whenever I listen to it the song takes me to a different world altogether. This song brings back many memories of childhood for me.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 02
————————————————————————————–
Today’s song is from the ‘1971’ movie ‘Badnaam Farishtey’.
One song from this movie was posted on the blog on 02.01.2012 and since then the movie has completed its ‘ten-year’ run on the blog 😊 without adding a song to its tally.
Let us see the list of movies represented on the blog ten years back on 02.01.2012.
Here is the list.
| Song | Movie title(Year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Balmaa hamaar motor car lai ke aayo | Anhonee (1973) | Yippeeee’ed |
| Tere teer ko hamne pyaar se dil mein rakhh liyaa | Qaidi No. 911 (1959) | Yippeeee’ed |
| B.A., M.A., Ph. D, ye diplomaay, ye degree | Badnaam Farishtey (1971) | 1 of 5 songs posted |
From the three movies viz. ‘Anhonee-1973’, ‘Qaidi No.911-1959’ and ‘Badnaam Farishtey-1971’, all songs of two movies have already been covered on the blog. These movie are ‘Anhonee-1973’ and ‘Qaidi No.911-1959’, so only one movie out of three are eligible today for the ‘blog ten-year challenge’.

Navratri. Nine nights of festivities. Celebrated through the country in honour of Devi Maa, Maa Durga, or the Holy Trinity of Durga Lakshmi Saraswati. Also Rama’s victory over Ravana and rescuing Devi Seeta from Lanka. No wonder the 10th day of the festival is called Vijaya Dashami.

Qawwalis were common in Hindi films when I was growing up(1968-1983). As I grew watching them in the movies in my childhood, some qawwalis left lasting impression on my impressionable mind.

Hullo Atuldom
Today we are revisiting a movie that released in 1966 and was directed by J B H Wadia. The songs were all written by D.N. Madhok and C Ramchandra was the music director. It had 8 songs of which only 2 are on the blog. These are the ones posted:
| Song | Remarks |
|---|---|
| Duniya banaane waale ne | post by Sudhirji marking 4200th post of the blog and has a lot of info about the actor Sajjan. |
| Tasveer bhi dekhi thhi | this is also a post by Sudhirji. |
Interesting notes are present in this second post about how C Ramchandra and D N Madhok have collaborated only twice (before this movie) and that too in the beginning of their careers.
Both these posts provide links to Memsaab’s blog and the synopsis/ review to the movie. BTW I forgot to mention that we are revisiting “Tasweer”.

The song with this post was suitable for 19th August. 19th was the remembrance day of Khayyam the music composer who began his journey in Bollywood in 1947, when he sang a song with Zohrabai Ambalewali. His first as a music director was in 1948 as ‘Sharmaji’ of the ‘Sharmaji-Varmaji’ composer Duo. The statistics page of the blog says that Khayyam saab has given music to 377 songs in 42 movies. That may seem too little when compared with music directors who were active during that period; but each song of his were ‘pure pleasure on the ears’. Songs like ‘shaam-e-gham ki kasam’ (1953) or ‘tum apna ranj-o-gham’ (1964) are still popular as also the hits from the ’70s and ’80s: ‘aa jaa re, aa jaa re o mere dilbar aa jaa’, ‘kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai’, ‘dikhayi diye yun ke bekhud kiya’, and many more that I grew up listening to, of course at that age only the songs used to play in my head, I never knew details about singer, composer, lyricist etc.

Happy Independence Day to all!!!
Today (15 august 2021),We are celebrating the seventy-fifth year of our hard-fought freedom that we got on 15th August in 1947. We can breathe in this free air now because many had sacrificed their present at that time for our future. There are many known and too many unknown freedom fighters who laid down their lives to see India as a free nation. The nation has grown up to seventy-four years old now and is stepping into the seventy-fifty year of its life.

Today 24th July 2021 is the eighty-fourth birthday (born as Harikishan Giri Goswami on 24th July’1937) of actor Manoj Kumar.
I have mentioned it in my earlier posts that Manoj Kumar and his movies have a special place in our heart or in the heart of those, who like me, have grown during the decade of seventies.
