Ramesh Saigal who had produced and directed socially relevant films like ‘Shikast (1952) and ‘Railway Platform (1956), ventured in to make one more such film based on the Russian novelist Dostoevsky’s ‘Crime and Punishment’. The film was PHIR SUBAH HOGI (1958). Raj Kapoor and Mala Sinha were the lead actors in this movie with Rehman, Jagdish Sethi, Leela Chitnis, Nana Pansikar and Mubarak in the supporting roles. The songs were written by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by Khayyam. As far as I know, Sahir Ludhianvi teamed up with Khayyam for the first time in this film.

“Doraaha” (1971) was produced by Ram Dayal and directed by Firoz Chinoy. This movie had an adult theme and that made the movie a “controversial” movie. In other words, the movie audience, media as well as the censors were not mature enough to handle movies of this genre. This movie, as well as other movies of the same genre, viz. “Dastak”, “Chetna” etc suffered from wrong publicity which attracted wrong kind of movie goers to these movies. The movies suffered at the box office. Come to thingk of it, Indian movie audience, media as well as the censors have not yet matured even today, some four decades later, to be able to deal with these kind of movies.

I was contemplating a write-up on the song ‘kyaa dekhaa ab naiano waali nainaa kyoon bhar aaye’ from film DHARMPUTRA (1961) over a month for discussion in the blog. But the song is so heart touching that I have been avoiding watching it again for a write-up. The song is a masterpiece and worthy of bringing to the notice of readers of this blog. The film was produced by B R Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra. Mala Sinha, Rehman, Shahsi Kapoor and Indrani Mukherjee were the main actors in the film. hamaare baad ab mehefil mein afsaane bayaan honge
bahaaren humko dhoondegi na jaane hum kahaan honge

These two lines of a song from film BAAGHI (1953) sum up the realities of our life. This song penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri and coming out of the magical combination of Lata-Madan Mohan was long overdue to be discussed in this blog. One song from this film has been discussed more than a year back.
