Today 22nd Janunary 2023 is the eighty-nineth birth anniversary of Vijay Anand. He was born on 22nd January 1934 and he passed away on 23rd February 2004.
Vijay Anand was one of the greatest director and editor of Hindi Cinema. He also produced movies, acted in movies, wrote movies and even wrote lyrics.

Today’s song is from the film Son of Alibaba-1955.
I would like to pay my humble respects to the unique, incomparable and extraordinary imagination of the Indian filmmakers in giving the most innovative titles to their films ! In the book of Arabian Nights there are only characters like Sindbad, Aladdin, Alibaba etc. Nowhere in the book there is a mention of their sons or daughters or other close relatives. But our Indian filmmakers have very benevolently provided them with children and thus were the films made like Aladdin ka beta-1955, Aladdin Laila-1941/55, Aladdin ki Beti-1949, Daughter of Sindbad-1958.

So far, I have been presenting qawwaalis from the decade of seventies on the blog. For a change today, I am presenting this one from the decade of sixties. In fact, today’s song was lying with me since long and Initially I sent only the audio of this song (the only vailable version at that time). But now the movie as well as the video of this songs has become available online.

Hullo Atuldom
Today’s song is from a forgotten movie of the late 1970s “Bagula Bhagat” (1979). It was directed by Harmesh Malhotra and produced by Gullu Sippy. It had a cast of Ashok Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Shabana Azmi, Kamini Kaushal, Padma Khanna, Mehmood Jr. etc. I think I saw a short video of the movie online somewhere and think I spied Anwar Hussain and Goga Kapoor as his henchman. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji and songs written by Anjaan. Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Amit Kumar and Asha Bhonsle as playback singers. The movie was written by Subhash Ghai and Bhalla.

Today’s song is from the costume/stunt film ‘Jungle King’ (1959). The film was made by Artists United, Bombay (the name reminds me of the famous Hollywood company ‘United Artists’). It was produced by a group calling itself ‘Four X’ (for reasons best known to them) composed of Morris, Akbar, Asghar and Haider. The director was Masood and the music was by the pair of Bipin-Babul. The cast was very interesting. It consisted of Shaaga, Haaydu (what strange names! Never heard them !!), Sheila Ramani, Anwar, Majnu, Kamal Mehra, Heera Sawant, Tun Tun, Kabban Mirza, Dambe, Doud, Badshah, Rampuri Mehmood, Elephant Laxmi and many others.

HFGK shows 10 songs for this film. It does not give record numbers or singer’s names(except for 2) for the songs. Today’s song is not listed on this page, for whatever reasons. Nevertheless, it is confirmed that this song is from this film only, as the uploader has given the photo of this record on RMIM and also mentioned on YouTube that this song is not listed in HFGK. Possibly, at the time of compilation, the record details with singers’ names etc were not available to Hamraz ji. It happened in some other film cases too.
