“Mere Huzoor” (1968) was a nice movie on its genre ( Muslim social theme) and it had some wonderful music. I have already posted a few songs from this movie. And more songs from this movie deserve to be posted.

One fine day in 1970s, I went to watch an old movie called “Kaajal”. I did not expect much from the movie, considering that it had Raj Kumar and Meena Kumari in it- and they were at their tragic “best” those days.

It is a very well known song from an obscure movie called “Samrat Chandragupta” (1958). Considering that this movie was a historical/ mythological fare, it must have been a B grade movie. Kalyanji was the music director of this movie. This must have been his debut movie as a music director. Later he roped in his younger brother Anandji to form their music director partnership of Kalyanji Anandji in subsequent movies.

Rafi was not only gifted with a divine voice, he was also a very humble and considerate individual. He would help out struggling music directors and would sing for them virtually for nothing. And he would give his best to these songs. There are countless Rafi songs sung for anonymous music directors which were picturised on forgotten/ forgettable actors. Quite a few of these songs are very nice and hummable songs.
