Today’s song is from the film Sipahiya-1949.
Many film artists – actors, singers, directors etc – have written their autobiography. If you take a look at all these, the females have more autobios than the males, for reasons not known to me. In my last few years of activity in the arena of old films, I have collected many books and have received many books as ‘Gifts’ from the authors. Among these, there are many autobios, including the autobio of C Ramchandra, music director of today’s film Sipahiya-1949.

Today’s song is from an unreleased film ‘Hamaari Kahaanee-1973’. This movie was directed by B.V. Algikar for ‘Navprakash Chitra, Bombay’. It had Master Shripad, Baby Ragini, Master Vinayak, Master Kiran, Sulochana, Abhi Bhattacharya, Dhoomal and others. Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980) lists three songs for this movie, leaving space for possibility of more songs in this movie. Two songs are written by Asad Bhopali, and one song is written by Jaan Nisar Akhtar. Music for this movie is composed by C. Arjun. (More than a year back I had come across another song from this movie which I had noted for some other occasion.) The singers for this movie are Usha Mangeshar, Manna Dey and Mohd Rafi. Today I present a song sung by Mohd Rafi which is written by Jaan Nisar Akhtar.

# Singer Yesudas’s Birthday #
————————————————————
Today 10th January 2025 is the eighty-fifth birthday of Singer Yesudas (born on 10.01.1940). As of now the statistics page on the blog doesn’t mention the total number of songs Yesudas has sung for Hindi movies. I am sure we will be adding these details soon with one of his songs here. In one of my earlier post I had given the filmography of Yesudas from his debut in Hindi films up to the year 1980. This figure has 84 songs from 52 films. So far, we have not even touched these 84 songs of him on the blog. That means we still have a long way to go before we can cover aa Yesudas songs. Today on his 85th birthday we have already covered two songs sung by him. I am adding one more to his tally today.

Today’s song is from India’s Milestone movie – Kisan Kanya-1937.
The year 1937 was a year of Revolution for the newly started Talkie Films. Initially the films were mainly based on Folk tales, Parsi dramas and Mythological stories. 1937 was a year in which the Film industry was trying to drop its old skin and don a New Avtar. From this year, a variety of subjects were used to make films. If we briefly look at some path breaking, landmark films using Novel themes, we will understand how the film industry was attempting to change itself.

Today’s fun song is from the film ‘Kunwara Baap’ (1942).
The first reaction after reading the title of the film will be Mehmood’s film of 1974 having the same title. But rest assured today’s film was made in 1942 and had a different story. Mehmood’s film was based on an incurable disease – Polio, suffered by a child and it had a touch of pathos, creating sympathy and allied feelings. But ‘Kunwara Baap’ of 1942 was a fun film.

I have mentioned it several times that after posting the century post in the blog, I heave a huge sigh of relief and start relaxing, secure in the knowledge that the next century post was far far away. But the next century post occasion arrives way earlier (it seems to me) than expected. It demonstrates that posting 100 articles is not such a daunting task if one just avoids DOT days and posts one or two articles in a day.
