Hindi movie music is enriched by a large number of artists. In many cases, these artists are known more by their work, rather than by their names. For instance, the name Sudhir Phadke may not ring many bells, especially with the younger generation, but just make them listen to songs like Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai(Pahli taarikh) (1954) and Jyoti kalash chhalke(Bhaabhi ki choodiyaan)(1961).
These two immortal compositions are the creations of none other than Sudhir Phadke whose birth anniversary falls on 25 july.

I have mentioned that finding Sajjad Hussain compositions is always a cause for great celebration. With as many as 56 Sajjad Hussain compositions already discussed in the blog, there many not be many more Sajjad Hussain compositions that are left to be discussed.

It is on 19th july 2008 that this blog was born. Today this blog has completed three years. This gives me an opportunity to look back and reminisce on the musical journey that this blog has undergone in these three eventful years.

As rare songs go, this song is rarest of the rare, as they say in legal parlance. 🙂 So rare in fact that very little information is available on this song. What I know for sure is that this song is from “Tilasmi Duniya” (1946). Another information that is exciting for music lovers is that Sajjad Hussain is the music director !

Rain gayi ab huaa saweraa

During old days (1950s to 1980s), a K L Saigal song was played as the last song of the programme “Puraani Filmon ke geet” in the Hindi service of Radio Ceylon (later renamed Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) broadcast from 7-30 AM to 8-00 AM. But they were under no obligatio to broadcast different K L Saigal songs every day. So the same few songs were constantly recycled in that programme.
