‘Changez Khan’, the film from 1957, boasts of the iconic Rafi rendition “Mohabbat Zinda Rehti Hai. Mohabbat Mar Nahin Sakti”. Coming from the banner of NC films, this is a home production of Hansraj Behl and his family. The film is produced by Gulshan Behl (brother of Hansraj Behl), and is directed by Kedar Kapoor. The star cast is impressive and includes Premnath, Bina Rai, Sheikh Mukhtar, Johnny Walker, Jeevan, Tiwari, Leela Misra, Ramesh Thakur, Helen, Khursheed, Sandow, Jai Singh, Satpal, Bakshi, Chaman Lal, Aazam, B Saagar. The songs of this film are penned by three poets – Qamar Jalaalabaadi, Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’ and Verma Malik. This particular song is written by Qamar Jalaalabaadi. And yes, the music is by Hansraj Behl. The film has a total of six songs, four of which are already present on this blog. “WOW” – the first reaction from my mind when I heard this song again after a very long time today. What a pleasant, delightful creation of joyous abandon this song is. One of those apparently never ending stream of gems that keep popping up from the most unexpected corners of this treasure house that we call the Hindi film music. Wow, what a song this is – a song that has stayed obscure. . . rather I would say, it has suffered obscurity for reasons that may never be completely understood. For why else would such wonderful creations of such bubbling music stay away from limelight and away from the listening pleasure of music lovers. I am sure you will believe my words when you hear it. And its obscurity is underscored by the fact that I was not able to locate it online, so far as I could search, and so I am posting this rare gem for my listener friends.

Munshi Premchand (31 July 1880- 8 october 1936) was a premier Hindi novelist whose novels and stories have had an enormous influence on modern Hindi literature. When I look at his literary output, I am amazed at his vision. His vision was unbelievably progressive and futuristic, especially considering the era he lived in (late 19th century to early 20th century).

“Chamak Chaandni” (1957) is not a movie too many people may be aware of. This obscure movie was a Chitra Bharati Limited production. It was produced by Chimanlal Trivedi and directed by Mani Bhai Vyas. The starcast reads like a B grade movies who is who, viz. Mahipal, Shakila, Tiwari, Chandrashekhar,Maruti, Niranjan Sharma, Helen, Purnima etc.
