The film ‘Mohabbat Isko Kehte Hain’ from 1965 is simply a treasure house of wonderful songs. And so it is, given that the lyrics are coming from the pen of Majrooh Sb and the music is created by Khayyaam Sb, the genius of the understated melody who has remained always by the banks of the mainstream. Whatever may be the film, his creations are simply fantastic.

The 1965 film ‘Johar Mehmood in Goa’ is a veritable treasure house of wonderful songs and music. A popular hit in its own time, this film still continues to be known for the songs. Of the total of eight songs, four song are already represented on this blog. This duet here now becomes the fifth song from this film to make it here.

‘Poonam Ki Raat’ is a film from almost 50 years ago. And the thought comes to mind that the period of time from which we remember the best loved music is now receding in history. Just the films and songs that used to be new and fresh in mind and in media, are now counted as half century old, and even older.

“Guide” (1965) was a Navketan Productions movie. It was directed by Vijay Anand. The movie had Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Kishore Sahu, Jagirdar, Anwar, Ulhas, Parveen Paul, Purnima, Krishan Dhawan, Leela Chitnis, Rashid Khan etc in it.

“Mere Sanam”(1965) was a Sippy Films Production movie. It was produced by G P Sippy and directed by Amar Kumar. The movie had Biswajeet, Asha Parekh, Pran, Rajendranath, Mumtaz, Dhumal, Achla Sachdev, Nazir Hussain, Asit Sen etc in it.

Deewaaron pe lagi huyi thhi filmy posteron ki qataar

Presently, I am on a nostalgic journey of the 60s when I was blessed with listening to some popular non-filmy songs sung by the top playback singers and other singers of that time. In fact some of non-filmy songs of that time were as popular as Hindi film songs. Almost all top playback singers of that time like Talat Mehmood, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Mukesh, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle had recorded non-filmy songs at one time or the other. If Hindi films songs have hidden gems which are being unearthed on this blog every day, there are also lesser known gems in non-filmy song segment which need to be brought to the notice of the readers of this blog for the sake of posterity.
