In this article I am taking up for discussion an obscure film, ‘Rukhsat’ (1988) which I watched online recently. The film was written and directed by Simi Grewal – the only film she directed so far. The cast included Mithun Chakraborty, Anuradha Patel, Marc Zuber, Amrish Puri, Simi Grewal, Pradeep Kumar, Rohini Hattangadi, Tom Alter, Baby Sona Sardesai etc with friendly appearance by Sujit Kumar. The film took about 6 years to complete and get released.

Hullo Atuldom
Followers of this blog may have noticed my inclination towards combining anniversaries of celebrities. That is, I try to find songs where two or more celebs, who’s birth or death anniversaries fall on the same dates or adjacent dates, are featured. I must admit that finding songs of some combinations are difficult as the concerned actors or actresses may have been in the same film but may have not even shared screen-time or screen-space, so finding a together song is a tall order.
I am in luck this time; for which I shall GOOGLE.

Mukesh and his Composers – 40
Coming to next part of this series, we take up the case of composer Shreekant Telang for whom Mukesh again has a solitary song. The film is “Santoshi Maa Ki Mahima” whose records were released in 1975, but for some unknown reason the film itself was released in 1981 with an altered name “Sampoorna Santoshi Maa Ki Mahima”.
With some difficulty, I was able to trace the movie and here it is. However, it is sans any songs. The titles are available, and thus we are able to confirm the film since the singers, composers and lyricist are known.

Hullo Atuldom
I have undertaken a rather difficult task- writing a post to remember the legendary Guru Dutt & trying to pay a tribute to him in my own humble capacity as I am someone who got acquainted with the actor, director, producer, choreographer, and writer much after his time on this earth.
He was born on 9th July 1925, in Bangalore, to Shivashanker Rao Padukone who was a headmaster and a banker & Vasanthi, a teacher and writer. At birth he was called Vasant Kumar & his family was, essentially, Konkani Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmins; but as his family shifted to Bhowanipore (Calcutta) when he was a child, he learnt & spoke fluent Bengali. (That possibly explains why I initially thought he was a Bengali). He had a sister Lalita Lajmi- (a painter) and 3 younger brothers, Atma Ram (a director known for ‘Umang’, ‘Aarop’ etc.), Devi (a producer known for ‘Masoom’, ‘Aakrosh’ etc.), and Vijay. Vasant Kumar’s name was changed to Gurudatta Padukone following a childhood accident, the belief being that it was an auspicious choice. Director & screenwriter Shyam Benegal is second cousin of Vasant Kumar a.k.a. as Guru Dutt & Amrita Rao (actress of the new generation) is the grand daughter of Guru Dutt’s cousin.
