Today, August 18th 2020 is 86th Birth Day of the poet, lyricist, story, screen-play and dialogue writer, producer and director, Gulzar. His presence in Hindi film industries is an assurance that lovers of Hindi films and Hindi film songs would continue to get the opportunity to watch and listen to the meaningful films and songs. I regard Gulzar Saab as an extension of what Sahir Ludhianvi left in October 1980 – a legacy of poetry in Hindi film songs.
I have already covered a substantive information about the filmy career of Gulzar saab in my articles ae hairat-e-aashiqui jagaa mat on the occasion of his 85th birth day last year and in shaam se aankh mein nami si hai, abut 5 years back. Also, there is no dearth of information on Gulzar Saab on the internet, in the print media and his website. So, I would skip this part.

Reviewing the week of Aug16 – Aug22, I just thought of doing the analysis in one more way – to just see where all we had been and what all were we listening to during the time from the start of the blog on 19Jul2008 to 22Aug2010. Interesting things appeared.

Today’s song is from film Patrani-1956. It was a Prakash Pictures’ film, produced by Shankarbhai Bhatt-the elder brother and directed by Vijay Bhatt, the younger brother. The music was by Shankar-Jaikishen (S-J). Songs were written by Shailendra (9) and Hasrat Jaipuri (1).
In my last post, I had talked about songs from the 50’s decade, especially songs from Shankar-Jaikishen films of this decade. I was determined to discuss such songs from Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50’s, so I started scanning each of their films made in the 50s. From 1951 to 1960, Shankar-Jaikishen gave music in a total of 41 films. First, I made a list and then revised it to an alphabetical list. That way, it would be easier for me to check songs from every film, from the Blog’s ” List of songs-moviewise”. Before starting, I went through the list once again and my heart sank. Looking at the titles of the films, I was afraid that most films must have already been ‘ Yippied ‘.

The movie ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’ was released in 1978 but I got to watch it much later, in the early eighties, and that too on Doordarshan when I had gone to Nagpur to my Uncle’s place.
Later on, I watched it when I had ‘colour TV’ at home.

Remembrance day for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan:
Since 31st July, I am on an unprecedented spree of anniversary and birthday posts. When I scrolled down the month of August in the “Anniversary dates” page of the blog, I saw that on 16th August there are three birthdays and one death Anniversary. Birthdate is of Hemlata, Saif Ali Khan and Manisha Koirala. Incidentally both Manisha Koirala and Saif share not just the birthdate, but the year too, both born in 1970. So both are turning 50 today.

Today, August 16, 2020 is the 2nd Remembrance Day of Atal Bihari Vajpayee (25/12/1924 – 16/08/2018), the former prime minister, one of the greatest statesmen, a nationalist, a good orator and a poet.
The political career of Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been an open book and it does not require an elaborate discussion. Suffice to say in brief that at the age of 18, Atal Bihari Vajpayee became politically active by participating in Quit India Movement of 1942 and was imprisoned for one month. In 1957, He became the member of Lok Sabha for the first time at the age of 33. From 1967 to 1984, he continued as a member of Lok Sabha without any interruption. Again from 1991 to 2009, he became the member of Lok Sabha. With nearly 5 decades of experience – both from the opposition and ruling parrties’ sides, one can gauge the vast political knowledge he had gathered to be rightly called as ‘Bhishma Pitamah’ of Indian politics who was admired by both the ruling and opposition parties.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No.55
———————————————————————————–
Today is 15 august 2020, the 74th independence day of India. 10 years ago, on the occasion of 64th independence day of India, this blog had covered as many as eight patriotic songs. Here are the details:-
| Song | Movie title-Year | Remarks |

| Door hato ae duniya waalon Hindustan hamaara hai | Kismat-1943 | All songs covered |
| Watan ki raah mein watan ke naujawaan shaheed hon | Shaheed-1948 | All songs covered |
| kadam kadam badhaaye jaa | Samadhi-1950 | 6 songs covered out of 7 |
| Vande Maatram | Anand Mathh-1952 | 8 songs covered out of 9 |
| Ab koi gulshan na ujde ab watan aazaad hai | Mujhe Jeene Do-1963 | All songs covered |
| Ganga meri maa ka naam baap ka naam Himaalay | Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai-1969 | All songs covered |
| Taaqat watan ki ham se hai | Prem Pujaari-1970 | All songs covered |
| Mile sur mera tumhaara | NFS-1988 | Mile sur mera tumhaara- first NFS in the blog |
As can be seen from above, one song from “Samadhi”(1950) still remains to be posted. It is this to be covered. And that song is an appropriate song for the occasion. This movie ‘Samadhi’ (1950) was about the freedom struggle of India and about Subhash Chandra’s Bose. No wonder that the songs of this movie were mostly patriotic songs as can be seen from the list of the songs of this movie covered in the blog:-
Here is this seventh and final song from “Samadhi” to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Chorus. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist of this song with resembles Indian national anthem. Music is composed by C Ramchandra. The tune resembles the tune of national anthem.

Happy Independence Day
15th August- a very very important day in the life of any Indian. The day we are thankful to our predecessors who laid down their lives for getting us freedom from foreign rule.
Predecessors includes even those unnamed freedom fighters who walked along with the leaders of those times. It includes those who did not like to be ordered around by people who didn’t have an iota of understanding why India was the way it was.

This is a song for the rainy season. I have the lyrics noted with me since last year’s rainy season, but the post never got written. This is from the film Chameli (2003), which has 6 songs and Sunidhi Chauhan is the singer in all of them. Two are duets and the rest 4 are solo songs. This rain song is one of the solos. Sandesh Shandilya is the composer and lyricist is Irshad Kamil. This must be a record of sorts for the new millennium, one singer singing in all songs. Today is 14th August and it is Sunidhi Chauhan’s birthday. Can’t say for sure that there is no better song for celebrating the event, but the song is quite good. Sunidhi Chauhan is very versatile and has made a name for herself in her field. She has followed the footsteps of Alka Yagnik and a predecessor to Shreya Ghoshal. There was enough scope for many singers to work and make a name.
