Just five days ago, I’d written a post here paying tribute to one of the most loved legends of the Hindi film industry, Mohammad Rafi, on his birth anniversary. Referred to by many (including me) as Rafisaab, he was a giant in his field. Yet he remained humble to his last day, never letting success get to his head. He treated everyone with great respect and, in turn, earned the respect of everyone he interacted with.

The dear ones who depart this world, do never return; just the memories remain. And then, just as another poet has said, “यादों का सहारा ना होता, हम छोड़ के दुनिया चल देते”. If we did not have the bracing support of the memories, life would really have been a difficult journey to tread. Memories make us experience the past emotions once again, and in a manner, give us the strength to permeate the emotions of sorrow that may linger after the departure of a loved one.

A few of our regulars these days are finding themselves out of their comfort zone. Raja, for instance, is being forced to write “hurrriedly” typed articles while ho would like to get his articles typed in a more leisurely manner. Today’s song is from a comparatively new film ‘Lagaan’ (2001). The song,written by Javed Akhtar and composed by AR Rahman, is sung by 5 singers, viz. Alka Yagnik, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh and Udit Narayan. Why do I feel some readers are smiling after reading my above sentence calling ‘Lagaan’ as a new film ? As compared to what my forte has been so far (old films from 1930s to 1970), ‘Lagaan’ IS a comparatively new film. . . at least for me !

“Qaidi”(1957) was produced by F C Mehra and directed by Mohammad Hussain for Eagle Films, Bombay. The movie had Padmini, Suresh, Agha, Anwar, Kumar, Kamal Mehra, Helen, Leela, Raagini, Rajan Kapoor, Amrit Rana, Tuntun, Munshi Munaqqa, Agha Miraz, Nazeera, Rafiq, Sattar etc with Johny Walker, Shyam Sundar and Randhir as guest artists in it.

Wishing all a Merry Christmas. Also remembering Guru Gobind Singh on his 351st Jayanti today. I know for Christmas we should say “Merry Christmas” but unfortunately, what does one wish for Guru Gobind Singh Jayanthi. My apologies to all our Sikh friends for my ignorance.
I believe there is a confusion regarding the exact date. As per the Gregorian calendar it could be any date from December 22nd to January 15th as the Indian calendar says Saptami of Shukla Paksh in Paush month. I also read in some newspapers that there are almost weeklong celebrations in many parts of India.

“Ek din Aadhi Raat”(1971), an obscure “Social” movie was directed by Kamal Sharma for Mahesh Chitra, Bombay. This movie had Kumkum, Sujeet Kumar, Aruna Irani, Asit Sen, Praveen Paul, Meenakshi, Mohan Choti, Baldev Mehta, Master Dev Anand, Niraml Anand etc, with guest appearances by Manmohan, Jagdev and Lata Sinha.
