I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I keep an excel sheet to keep track of all the songs posted, as well as all the farmaishes sent by readers. It appears that Sid, a longtime reader and farmaish sender of this blog also maintains an excel sheet to keep track of the farmaishes sent. 😀 Sid would often remind me of farmaishes sent long time back.

Out of all the modes of public transport, tri wheeler Cycle rickshaw (popularly called Rickshaw) has been one of the most popular mode of transport of most Indians for several decades. This kind of rickshaw is ubiquitous in Indian cities even today, except in some metropilital cities where it is not allowed. You can see cycle rickshaw in Old Delhi, but not in New Delhi, for example.

“Banarasi Thug” (1962) was a B grade movie with Manoj Kumar and Vijaya Chaudhary in lead roles. The movie was B grade, but there were so many underemployed talented music directors those days that movie makers had no trouble getting A grade music composed even in B and C grade movies.

“Banarasi Thug” (1962) is not a movie that I knew much about. I began to search for the songs of this movie after I was told by a reader (Veena Seth) that the songs of this movie are missing from the blog.

In Bollywood movies, the main theme of the story is love between the lead actors. One variant of this theme in 1960s was love affair between a doctor and a nurse. “Dil Apna Aur Preet Paraayi” (1960) is a movie on this theme that readily comes to mind. Here Meena Kumari, the nusre has a one sided crush on Raj Kumar, the doctor.This movie and this theme must have appealed to the movie makers, because a few more movies like this followed in its wake.
