Remembering Mahendra Kapoor today, 9th Jan, his birth anniversary.

As I am searching for songs to post for today, I came across this simply super gem of a melody which I have heard long time back, and which has since been eluding me. Today (9th january) is the birthday of Mahendra Kapoor. For this day we have lots and lots of Mahendra Kapoor songs lined up for the occasion.

Here is a lovely song from “Kanyadaan”(1968). This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle and chorus. The song is picturised as a picnic song o Dilip Raaj, Saeeda Khan and many actors playing their friends, including Chinoo and Laxmi Chhaayaa.

January 9th is the birth anniversary of Mahendra Kapoor and the death anniversary of Qamar Jalalabadi ( Om Prakash Bhandari). Qamar Jalalabadi had been writing songs for Hindi films since 1942. In the previous qawwaali I had posted (Poochho Na Hamen Ishq Mein Kyaa Kyaa Nazar Aayaa), we saw Dara Singh and Mumtaz enjoying the qawwaali being performed by Jagdeep, Mohan Choti, and Shakila Banu Bhopali. So how about Dara Singh actually performing a qawwaali. No, not impossible, if that is the first thought that came to your mind. This qawwaali is co-presented on screen by Dara Singh, along with Maruti and a host of junior artists.
