This film was made by Circo Productions, belonging to a professional- Chimanlal Trivedi. The film was directed by Debki Bose. This was his first Hindi film in Bombay after he moved from New Theatres, Calcutta, due to some differences.

“Chaandni” (1989) from the Yashraj Films stable was produced and directed Yash Chopra. It starred Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Anupam Kher, Sushma Seth, Mita Vasisht, Anant Mahadevan, Manohar Singh, and Waheeda Rehman and Achala Sachdev in guest appearances. It was the story of Chandni Mathur a young effervescent young lady unsure of her emotions for two gentle men.

Today’s song is from an obscure film of 1944 – Dil ki Baat. The film was made by Atre Pictures, partly owned by P.K.Atre and actress Vanmala. Their relationship was similar to what C.Ramchandra and Lata Mangeshkar had in later years. The film was directed by Atre himself. The only other film he ever directed was Parinde-1945. He believed in hiring directors rather than directing films himself.

Today’s song is from a less known Mythological film, from a decade which had not given many religious films – the 40’s. The film is Uttara Abhimanyu-1946.
In the decade of the 40s, few films were made on religious subjects – compared to the 30s or the 50s. But it is also true that the few such films made in the 40s, like Bharat Milap-42 and Ram Rajya-43, underlined the fact that there was plenty of scope for such films and this fructified in the 50’s decade, which can be called as ” The Golden period of Religious Films”, after it churned out the maximum ever – 124 – Mythological films in 10 years’ time.

But when one of their girls, Saroj Shilotri (Shobhna Samarth after marriage) tried to venture into films, her maternal uncle (who became the guardian after the death of her father) vehemently opposed her entry into films. Today, December 14, 2020 is the 86th birthday of Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner and Padma Bhushan Shyam Benegal who was born on December 14, 1934 in Hyderabad. He set a bench-mark for Hindi film industry by successfully making parallel films. His films became inspirations for some Hindi film producer-directors to venture into the ‘middle of the road’ films (a cross between mainstream and parallel films).
