Few months back when I was travelling to my work place I got to listen to a program on a famous Radio FM channel. In This program, the anchor talks about the some special ‘characters’ from movies and the actors performing these characters, and the impact such characters have on the audience. That day this program talked about two special characters i.e. ‘Mogambo’ of ‘Mr. India-1987’ and ‘Jaykant Shikre’ of ‘Singham-2011’.

Madhur Bhandarkar, the four-time National Film Award winner, is known to make films on some unusual issues. Some of his films’ titles like ‘Chandni Bar’ (2001), ‘Satta’ (2003), ‘Page-3’ (2005), ‘Corporate’ (2006), ‘Traffic Signal’ (2007), ‘Fashion’ (2008), ‘Heroine’ (2012), ‘Calendar Girls’ (2015) are indicative of the diverse and unusual subjects he has covered in his films. He does not think that his films are exposes but they show what is happening in society without passing value judgement. Usually, he makes films with one or two well-known actors. Rest of actors are usually from the theatre/TV background. Songs in his films are not a priority. Most of the issues he takes up in his film is Mumbai-based.

Today 24th February’2023 is the ninety-ninth birth anniversary of the legendary singer and actor Talat Mahmood.
He was born on 24th February’1924 and he passed away at the age of seventy-four on 9th May’1988.
As a tribute to him I am presenting a song from the 1956 movie ‘Sati Anusuyaa’.

The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Jeetendra, Neetu Singh, Sulakshna Pandit, Amjad Khan, Pran, Kader Khan, Satyen Kappoo,Paintal, Deven Varma, Poornima, Preeti Ganguly, Rajan Haksar, Sunder, Ram Ssethi, Prem Bedi, Shivraj, Bhushan Tiwari, Master Vikas, Master Rajeev Tandon, Shaka,Roshni etc. The movie also had special appearances by Nazneen, Rajendra nath, Jayshree T and Neilu Arora.
