This is one more duet by Mohammed Rafi and Geeta Dutt from the film ‘Chunariya’ (1948). Music Director is Hansraj Behl and lyricist is Mulkraj Bhakri. Four songs of this film are already posted in the blog and none of them are having video links. The songs of this film are specially poignant with these two solos by Lata and Rafi, viz. Dil e nashaad ko jeene ki hasrat ho gayee tumse and Sab kuchh lutaayaa hamne aakar teri gali mein. The song I am discussing also just has an audio link. But from the tone of the song I can guess that it is a ‘ beggar’s song ‘. The words are not really begging but the composition is such that it can not fit any other situation.

‘Changez Khan’, the film from 1957, boasts of the iconic Rafi rendition “Mohabbat Zinda Rehti Hai. Mohabbat Mar Nahin Sakti”. Coming from the banner of NC films, this is a home production of Hansraj Behl and his family. The film is produced by Gulshan Behl (brother of Hansraj Behl), and is directed by Kedar Kapoor. The star cast is impressive and includes Premnath, Bina Rai, Sheikh Mukhtar, Johnny Walker, Jeevan, Tiwari, Leela Misra, Ramesh Thakur, Helen, Khursheed, Sandow, Jai Singh, Satpal, Bakshi, Chaman Lal, Aazam, B Saagar. The songs of this film are penned by three poets – Qamar Jalaalabaadi, Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’ and Verma Malik. This particular song is written by Qamar Jalaalabaadi. And yes, the music is by Hansraj Behl. The film has a total of six songs, four of which are already present on this blog. “Karwat” (1949) is by now an obscure movie. This movie was a Shree Gopal Pictures production movie. It was directed by Prakash. The movie had Bhagwan, Satish, Leela Gupte, Baburao, Deepak, Ratanpriya, Anwari, Vasantrao etc in it.

“Apni Izzat” (1952) is by now an obscure movie. This movie was produced unber the banner of Harishchandra Pictures. Nanabhai Bhatt was the director. The movie had Motilal, Munawwar Sultana, Yakub, Ruby Mayer, David Abraham, Gope, Agha etc in it.

I was aware of “Shaan” (1980) but it is news to me that a movie with this title was released in 1950 too. “Shaan” (1950) was a Kuldeep pictures production. It was directed by Jayant Desai. The movie had Rehman, Suraiya, Amar, David Abraham, Sapru, Pratima Devi, Cuckoo etc in it.
