I had listened to this song quite often in Radio Ceylon “aaphi ke geet” programme , which was a farmaishi programme catering to listeners from Jhumri Tilaiyya and elsewhere. But I do not think this song became particularly popular in Binaca geetmala or with those plying records on loudspeakers during those days of 1974. In fact, I was not even aware which movie this song was from.

What do I say about this song ? It was a big favourite of mine as well as that of others. But those days one could only listen what was played on radio and loudspeakers. So as a song stopped playing on these media, one tended to forget the song.

Gori gori gaaon ki gori re

“Ye Gulistaan hamara” was a Dev Anand movie that few people remember today. The movie itself sank without a trace.
Ironically, this movie had a better storyline than some of the rubbish Dev Anand movies that met with better fate at the box office. May be the movie deserved it because Dev Anand in any case would not bother much about authenticity of picturisation in his movies.

In 1950s and early 1960s, Kishore Kumar, in addition to playback singing, acted as an actor cum singer in movies. He was in fact the lead actor in many such movies, and he made a reasonably popular pair with Vyjyanti Mala those days.

“Karz” of 1980 was a musical blockbuster. Though many fans were not aware about it, but most tunes in that movie were lifted from western tunes, including the most popular ” meri umar ke nauzawaanon”. Of course, all that plagiarism did not affect the popularity of Bollywood songs of this , or any other movies, in any ways.
