Bollywood music touched its nadir in 1980s when “Disco” music took over the music scene. The fact that Bappi Lahiri and Mithun da were the biggest beneficiary of that era says it all. Bappi Lahiri (though capable of creating great music) preferred to create forgettable music. Mithun da indulded in so called disco “densing”, which, if you watched closely, bore little resemblence to actual “densing”. “Densing”, incidentally was how Mithun da pronounced “dancing”.

I can watch Bollywood songs any time, but ask me to watch a Bollywood movie containing the same songs and I develop cold feet. I find that the songs are often the only redeeming part of many movies.

Most of the songs posted in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. It is because I like to post those songs that people love to listen to even today. Most of the songs in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. It does not mean that I do not like songs from 1980s and later. It is just that I lost track of Bollywood music from 1980 onwards. Also, trends like blanant plagiarism, lyrics losing their importance, creation of songs in bad taste, demise of many legends from the scene, etc meant that the music of later decades does not appeal to me as much as the music of earlier decades.
A superb song picturised on Vinod Khanna, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Shafi Inaamdaar, etc. ( Can someone tell me the name of the lady playing Shafi’s wife ?).
For a long time, I thought that this song was sung by Kishore Kumar. Now it turns out that it is sung by Kumar Sanu. The Kishore Kumar clone that Kumar Sanu is, he has sung this song superbly and it has got to be one of his best songs ever. Sadhana Sargam, who makes her first appearance in this blog, sounds so sweet, almost sugar like.
