Remembering Rafi Saab on his 87th birth anniversary
It is thirty one years now that Rafi Saab left this mortal world. As per Hindu scriptures, ‘shabd’ or word / sound is eternal. And thus the voice of Rafi Saab. Probably the most mellifluous, and the most pliable voice that has ever graced the Hindi silver screen and the radio airwaves. The loss at a reasonably young and active age of 55, has been irreplaceable, as the past three decades have shown. Many contenders came and tried to take his place. But in the test of time, Rafi Saab towers above all and his voice, now emanating from electronic storage, still strums the strings of the heart, as they did decades ago.

“Ek Naao Do Kinaare” (1973), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog, is by and large a forgotten movie. It was a Nitin Films production and it was directed by B R Ishaara.The movie had newcomers like Hina Kausar, Rakesh Pandey, Mrinal Mukherjee and oldtimer like Manhar Desai in it.

Today (24th december) is Rafi’s birthday so today we are discussing songs sung by Rafi in this blog.
Here is a song from “Mirza Saahibaan”(1957). I notice that I have discussed as many as six songs from a movie of the same name that was released in 1947 and which starred Trilok Kapoor and Noorjahaan, but only one song from “Mirza Saahibaan” (1957) which starred Trilok Kapoor’s nephew, someone known as Shammi Kapoor 🙂 and Shyama.

24th december is a red letter day for Hindi movie music lovers. It was on this day in 1924 that Mohammad Rafi was born. We in this blog do not wait for this day to remember him, of course. This blog is 1260 days old and we have 1287 Rafi songs so far in this blog, which means that we in this blog remember him everyday by discussing on an average one Rafi song daily.

I have discussed as many as six songs from “Anpadh” (1962) including the most well known songs from the movie, viz the two ghazals from it.
Here is another song, which is a lesser known song from this movie. This song is a stage dance song which is picturised as a cultural programme on stage which is watched by a houseful audience.
