There are combinations of artists that have created some wondrous songs and music. But the disappointment at times is that these artist may have had really very few opportunities to work with each other. Yesterday, as I started to select some songs to post for today to celebrate Mukesh’s anniversary, this thought came to my mind. And I started to look for some songs that Mukesh has sung under the music direction of Jaidev. Just putting together these two names, sounds like a great combination that expected would be creating some wonderful gems together.

A few days ago I heard this song on my mobile. There is huge collection of songs, come from where in my mobile I dont know. When the instrument was new, my daughter was trying out all functions in it. She has downloaded many old songs. This has to be one of them. For one born in 90’s the 70’s songs are old. I am getting to know what songs are there only now, since I thought to make use of the cache.

‘Bijli’ is a non-descript and an obscure film from 1950. Produced under the banner of Hindustan Chitra, Bombay, the film is directed by Sushil Sahu. The cast of actors includes Rehana, Ramesh Gupta, Sitara, Vilas Mohbe, Paro, Badri Prasad, Sushil Sahu, Ameer Karnataki, Satya Narayan, Narbada Shankar, C L Shah, Kanta, Kazmi etc. The music department is well staffed with lyrics coming from the pen of Bharat Vyas, and the music from the mind of Khemchand Prakash.

“Dev Kanya” (1963) was a Sur Sagar chitra production. It was directed by S N Tripathi. the movie had Mahipal, Anita Guha, B. M. Vyas, Krishna Kumari, Babu Raje, Mukri etc in it.

Today (8 september 2013) is the 80th birth anniversary of Asha Bhonsle. On this occasion, here is a forgotten musical gem from this equally forgotten movie. This song is a duet which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mukesh. B D Mishra is the lyricist. Music is composed by S N Tripathi.
