The 1960s missing films train continues to chug along. 🙂
In this episode, we bring on board a very obscure film from 1964 – ‘Teen Dost’. The film itself is quite forgotten and the songs of this film are quite a rarity. So far only one record of this film has appeared in public domain, meaning only two songs of this film are available, out of the five songs listed in the Geet Kosh.

The palat side of today’s song, was posted – goodness, four years ago. And Sandhya ji is now completing 87 years today, and stepping into her 88th. Abundant greetings to Sandhya Mukherji – we wish for her good health and comfort, and that we may get many more such opportunities to greet her.
Four years back, I had posted the lovely, lively “O Re Jeene Waale, Hans Le Gaa Le Dhoom Mach Le” – one of her very few non film songs recorded in Hindi. From the same gramophone record (GE 24065 – Columbia), I present today, the song from the other side. A more poignant song, a sad song of separation – this song is no less iconic. As I tried to search for more, I drew a blank (so far). It seems that this gramophone record and these two songs may well be the only two non-film Hindi songs that have been recorded by Sandhya ji.

Yes, we know, and we realize it. But still, it does seem that this साथ was not even justified as दो पल or even one. खो जाने वाली मंज़िल, कुछ बहुत ही जल्दी आ गई. . .

Skipping the letters ‘ढ’ and ‘ण’ –
‘ढ’ – very few songs starting with this letter – either all used, or not applicable to this series.
‘ण’ does not have any song starting with this letter. Made a very interesting discovery as I browsed the Hindi dictionary for words starting with ‘ण’. There is only one word that starts with this letter. More interestingly, the letter itself has uses as a monosyllabic word, and has at least 10 meanings associated. Wow.
So we come to the letter ‘प’ today. And here is a wonderfully lovely song to go with it.

The movie had Trilok Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, P Kailash, Mahipal, Suryakant, Vijaysen, Anil, Vasantrao Pahalwan, Dulaari, Rajraani, Nazira, Mahtab, Kumud, Usha, Amirbai Karnataki, Keshav Purohit, Bheem, Banke Bihaari, S N Tripathi, Pesi Patel, Kamlakant, Sachin Ghosh, Kamlesh Thakar, Yashwant Dave, Bhagwandas, Date, Sayyad Patel, Ibrahim, Babu Raje, Yusuf Mahimi etc in it.

Today’s song is from an old film School Master-1943. This was a Sun Art Pictures film, produced and Directed by the veteran C M Luhar. The Music director was Ninu Majumdar. There were 10 songs in the film. 5 were by Pt. Indra and 5 were by Pt. Bharat Vyas. Our today’s song is by Bharat Vyas. It is a duet sung by Karan Dewan and Rajkumari. The cast of the film was Jeevan, Maya Banerjee, Karan Dewan, Kaushalya,Gope, Rajkumari Shukla, Susheel kumar and others.

Hullo all in Atuldom
Saw a good clean movie with a straight forward story today. The story was almost as if inspired from the life of Valmiki.
Let me begin at the beginning. As I was writing my previous post on Hrishikesh Mukherjee I went through the filmography and saw that I had missed out seeing Sabse Bada Sukh; Arjun Pandit; Naukri; Achcha Bura; Naamumkin (of the 70s and 80s) and a few from the earlier decades. So, I decided since I have the time I shall see one today. But before that I was looking for songs where Sachin Dev Burman and Majrooh Sultanpuri had collaborated and was also hoping that all the songs of this duo had not bee posted. And sure enough all the extremely popular albums – Paying Guest, Solva Saal, Lajwanti, Nau Do Gyarah, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi etc- that the two have worked together on have made their appearance on the blog. So that left me with the 70s to put under the search engine (because post 31st October 1975 SD Burman was not there). The 70s have given us a few gems from this duo- Phagun, Abhimaan, Sagina, Arjun Pandit etc. and on running through “the list of songs moviewise and checking up the status of these movies I found we have one song posted from Arjun Pandit, all songs of Abhimaan, Phagun (3 out of 6) Sagina (all songs posted). That left only Arjun Pandit for my use. Then I checked up number of songs in the movie and one out of three are posted.
