Yesterday (15 august 2012) was Indian Independence day. India had attained her independence on 15 august 1947.
By a unique coincidence, the Hindi movie actress Rakhi was born on that very day, viz 15 august 1947 ! Among all the midnight children (as Salman Rushdie would describe children born on that day in his best selling novel of the same name), Rakhi must be the most well known one. The first solo song that Kishore Kumar sang in his playback career was for Dev Anand in the movie “Ziddi” (1948) under the music direction of Khemchand Prakash. Then S D Burman, his mentor used his good offices to get Kishore Kumar to give plaback for Raj Kapoor in “Pyaar” (1950). But from that time onwards, Kishore Kumar sang for himself or for Dev Anand, in case it was a Dev Anand movie with S D Burman’s music direction. I can think of one more exception during 1950s though where Kishore Kumar sang for someone other than himself or Dev Anand. It was the iconic song Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai(Pahli taarikh) (1954) which was picturised on Raja Nene.

How we would like to have a comprehensive list of all the anniversaries of all the film personalities, so that we could discuss their songs on their anniversaries. Once we have our list of anniversary dates ready, we may have our hands full, what with every date of the year most likely having a few anniversaries.
