Hullo atuldom

Wishing the Dream Girl of the 1970s, 1980s,1990s a very happy birthday. She is still so dainty, graceful & I shall not use the cliché word “Beautiful”- there is no debate about that.

There is a saying in Hindi – भगवान जब देता है,तो छप्पर फाड़कर देता है. This saying is used in the context of unexpected gains, not necessarily in terms of monetary gains but in any form. For example, this saying applies to a farmer who gets a bumper crop in the backdrop of the loss of crops due to drought or floods in the preceding one or two years. This saying also applies to Sujoy Ghosh when his low budget film, ‘Kahaani’ (2012) earned a bumper box office collections after his preceding two films – ‘Home Delivery’ (2005) and ‘Alladdin’ (2009) failed at the box office.

(A Tribute to Kishore Kumar – The Versatile Genius)

Today (13 October 2023) we pay our tributes to the ‘versatile genius’ Kishore Kumar (04.08.1929 – 13.10.1987) on his thirty-sixth ‘Remembrance Anniversary’.

Much has already been written about Kishore Kumar in the media and on this blog too. So I am not going to repeat the same today. But I would like to mention that Kishore Kumar will be discussed till HFM exists on this planet. Much will be written about him till the HFM exists on this planet. People of future generations will keep coming across his songs and his biography and his acting and musical skills and his writing skills and his directing skills and … we can go on adding about this multifaceted personality, and a simple yet sometimes eccentric human being. One needs to into depth into his life to understand Kishore Kumar fully. So people will keep discoving facts about him.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Memories of Binaca Geetmala)
——————————————-———————————————

Today’s song is from the 1975 movie ‘Ponga Pandit’. I have not watched this movie yet, but I vaguely recall this name from my childhood days. I was aware of a couple of songs from this movie. Songs of this movie were played frequently on loud-speakers. This movie, I think was not a successful movie in terms of collections.

There are some actors who have normally been identified with what is known as ‘middle of the road’ films. The big names among them are Amol Palekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Farooque Shaikh, Om Puri, Irfaan Khan, Deepti Naval, Paresh Rawal and Pankaj Kapoor. In the recent times, some more actors have joined this list which includes Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raghubir Yadav, Pankaj Tripathi etc. One more name of the actor which I would like to include in this list is Sanjay Mishra who has come into prominence after 2013. I am a great admirer of Sanjay Mishra as an actor. I find him to be an ‘offbeat’ actor because his expressions, reactions, body movements and dialogue deliveries are unpredictable. As an actor, Sanjay Mishra gives a feel of a real character of one among us.

There are a good number of feature films made on Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy. I have watched a couple of Gandhi films – Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ (1982) and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ (2006). There is film titled ‘Road to Sangam’ (2010) which I had not heard of until recently. The title of the film gave me an impression of a film on a road journey to the confluences of the holy rivers in India (for example, Panch Prayags in Uttarakhand). But it turned out to be a Hindi film connected with Mahatma Gandhi.
