Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 93
———————————————————————————–
I notice that only 198 articles were posted in the blog during the first four months of the year 2010. Still, by the end of end of October 2010, the blog had already added just over one thousand posts during the year 2010 ! That was because the blog had picked up pace from July to September 2010, when 481 posts were published in these three months !

Today’s song is from the film Kaise Kahoon-1945.
To start with, Bombay was the first film making centre followed closely by Calcutta. Slowly, some other centres like Madras, Coimbatore, Poona, Bangalore etc. as occasional film centres also developed. In 1924,i.e. 11 years after the first silent feature film was released in Bombay, Lahore made its first silent film-“The daughters of Today”. It was made and released in Lahore. This film was made by Mr. G K Mehta, a former officer of North Western Railways, who had imported a Camera from London. A R Kardar, who was making posters for foreign film productions and who was a qualified well known Calligrapher, assisted Mehta. Kardar and his friend Ismail both also acted in that film.

Today, November 16th 2020 is the 53rd Remembrance Day of the music director, Roshan Lal Nagrath (14/07/1917 – 16/11/1967). In 1951, he had composed teri duniya mein dil lagta nahi waapas bula le for ‘Baawre Nain’ (1951).The Almighty seemed to have taken his composition seriously and snatched him away from us early at the age of 50.

Today’s song is from an early era film- Jeewan Naiya-1936.
The film was produced by Bombay Talkies. This was their just the second full length Talkie film, since the company was started. How Bombay Talkies was conceived, established and became one of the India’s top film studios has been told several times- here and on the Internet. They were pioneers and pall bearers of making films on social evils of Indian society, led by their senior in this field – Prabhat Film Co., which was started a few years earlier.

As a simpleton, I thought that Deepawali is a one day festival which is celebrated on amawasya day. Now I realise that Deepaawali begins two days in advance, namely on tryodashi (or teras). This day is popularly called Dhanteras. Next day viz chaturdashi is Narak Chaturdashi aka Chhoti deewaali. Next day, viz amawasya is the day of Laxmi pooja, and it is the real Deepaawali day. Next day, the first day of next lunar cycle, is Govardhan pooja. Next to that is Bhai dooj. That is not all. On the sixth day after Deepaawali is Chhat, a very important festival in Bihar.
I am not the only simpleton. There are others. For instance, there are people who think that Govardhan pooja has something to do with Gobar (cow dung). 🙂 Not really, Govardhan pooja is pooja of Govardhan parvat, the parvat that Lord Krishna lifted to protect Gokulwasis from severe rain.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 111 # Debutant movie-Saazish-1975

Today’s song is from the 1975 movie ‘Saazish’.
This movie is making its debut on our blog. It is part of one of my ‘projects’ of bringing ‘movies with same title’ on the blog. We already have a movie with this title released in ‘1959’ represented on the blog. (Incidentally this movie was also launched on the blog with a lyrics contribution sent by me then 😊) (isme meri koi saazish nahin thhi 😊)
