Today’s song is from film Pagle-1950.
1950 was the last year of the second decade of Talkie cinema. The effects of Partition had started showing effects. Entry of actors, directors and composers from Bengal – due to the crumbling of New Theatres – entry of newer artistes to replace the migrators and the changing tastes of the Indian people was being reflected in the films made in this year. The migration of artistes-both ways-continued with force till about the early 50s and slowed down in the early 60s, where finally it was stopped in 1965 by Pakistan rulers.

‘Zindagi Aur Hum’ (1962) was produced by Rashid Parwez and was directed by Pandit Anandkumar. The star cast included Nalini Jaywant, Chand Usmani, Naina, Dinesh, David, Leela Mishra, S Nazir, Mukri, Amar, Jagdish Kanwal, Chandabai, Anwaribai etc. The story was written by Pandit Shivkumar who was the elder brother of Pandit Anandkumar. Pandit Shivkumar also wrote lyrics for 5 of the 6 songs. It was a last film for Pandit Anandkumar as a director though he continued to write screen-play and dialogues for few more subsequent films. It was also the last film for Pandit Shivkumar if I go by the tribute given to him in the credit title of the film.

Lata Mangeshkar, who had made her playback debut in 1940s (in Marathi movies) had to struggle for quite a few years to find a foothold in Hindi movies playback singing. By 1947, she had a grand total of 9 songs to show as a playback singer in HFM. Still, by the time the decade of 1940s ended, Lata Mangeshkar had a meteoric rise to the very top.

Munawwar Sultana – 96th Birth Anniversary on 08/11/2020
The name Munawwar means, shining brightly or aglow. Combined with Sultana, it becomes “an empress who shone with a bright light”. Munawwar Sultana was born on 8th November, 1924 at Lahore, she had a compact but meaningful career from 1941 to 1956 of working in 28 films. After this she settled down to married life and devoted her-self to raising her family. She expired at the age of 82 on 15th September 2007.

“Saagar” (1985) had a cast of Dimple Kapadia, Rishi Kapoor, Kamal Hasaan, Saeed Jaffery, Nadira, Sharat Saxena, Shafi Inaamdar, Satish Kaushik, Lilliput and Madhur Jaffery. It was directed by Ramesh Sippy and was produced by G P Sippy’s ‘Sippy Films’. It was a vehicle for Dimple’s comeback into Bollywood after her sabbatical brought on by marriage and family life. She was making a comeback after a gap of about 11 years. Her heroes were also her age group so they made an eye-pleasing team.

Today 6th November’2020 is the thirty-fifth ‘Remembrance Day’ of India’s one of the most admired and finest actors Sanjeev Kumar. He was born as Haribhai Jethalal Jariwala on in Surat on 9th July’1938. And he passed away due to a severe ‘heart attack’ on 6th November’1985.
A stint at a film school led him to Hindi film Industry and from there it was no looking back for him. He soon proved his versatility and genius in acting and also won prestigious National Film awards for Best actor two times- for ‘Dastak-1970’ and ‘Koshish-1972’.
