Most Raakhi songs in Hindi movies are sung by females playing non working sisters and they genuinely pray for the well being of their sisters. With time, even sisters in Hindi movies have become working women. And they do not just do the usual jobs meant for ladies, but they often work in jobs of masculine nature, viz in police.

I have discussed nearly twenty Holi songs in this blog during the three Holis that this blog has seen so far. That covers almost all the well known Holi songs and also a few songs that are not all that well known.

When I meet people and I tell them that I have a blog of old songs, I get some well meaning advices, suggestions etc. One of these well meaning suggestions is that I need not re invent the wheel as far as writing down the lyrics of the song is concerned. Lyrics of all these songs are available in many sites, I am told almost patronisingly.

Aao re aao khelo holi

“Baalika Badhu” (Child bride) as the name suggests was a movie made on the theme of child marriage. In this movie, Sachin and Rajni Sharma play the children who get married to each other. Sachin has some idea of what marriage is all about but his bride (played by a then thirteen year old Rajni Sharma) is mentally still a child. The dilemma of a teenage boy dealing with his wife who is still a kid was depicted nicely in this movie.

“Naya Raastaa” (1970) is somehow a movie that is largely unknown. It comes as a great surprise to me because it was an a grade movie starring Jeetendra and Asha Parekh.

Today (20 march 2011) is Holi, one of the major festivals in India. This festival is also one of the most popular festival in Hindi movies as it offers great opportunity for movie makers to show the lead actors and others letting their hairs down and singing and dancing rather more uninhibitedly than usual.
