Hello Atuldom
I am back again with one more birthday post. I was aware of this date- 9th April. For additional reminder Avinashji played my alarm this time. Every year I make mental notes to wish this Bengali Beauty but on the run-up to the date I end up forgetting to write and send a song.
When I shared my experience of seeing the dream girl at Mumbai airport with my friends from school we had a major down-memory-lane session. We remembered who was whose fan at that young age of ours. And my friends were talking of how I was a die-hard Rekha fan and she herself was a Jaya Bhadhuri fan. Actually we were three of us and between us we had Rekha, Jaya and Hema as favourites and the other heroines of those time were also-rans in our opinion. Oh! to be that age again!!! Hope the song with post is liked by my girl-gang.

The song with this post was very popular in the 70s. We can hear it occasionally even now on the AIR’s Vividh Bharati. It is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist with RD Burman as the music director.
‘Bhanwar’ (1976) was directed by Bhappie Sonie and had a cast headed by Ashok Kumar, Randhir Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Ranjeet, Kamini Kaushal, Nadira, Madan Puri etc. Two songs from this movie are already posted on this blog.

Today’s is a “this happened to me” post. It was a “dream” more than a “dream come true”. A chance to see the Dream Girl in person on my last trip to Mumbai.
So this is what happened- we had just landed at Mumbai airport. I was very tired after a long day followed by a delayed-flight. I told my husband that today i am in no position to walk the distance to the baggage-claim and am planning to hop on to any buggy that ferries passengers and I did. There were two passengers already on that buggy and the lady who was sitting mentioned that the passenger who was in the buggy that overtook us was Hema Malini. And I was disappointed that I had missed having a glimpse of her.

Ideally this post should have come last year, when this veteran of about a few hundred movies, turned 80. But then that has not happened.
I have decided that we shall not let the occasion go unnoticed. And in south India, the celebration for a person turning 80 is normally on completing 81, as the system of calculating the auspicious date to celebrate says that the person should have witnessed a 1000 full moons in his life, with the life being said to have started after the 1st birthday. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Under Sudhirji’s current series “Songs repeated in hindi films” he posted Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si on March 17th, that reminded me that Farooque Sheikh’s Birth anniversary was round the corner. he would have turned 72 today (25 march 2020).
I was reading up about Farooque Sheikh ((25 March 1948 – 28 December 2013) and discovered he was the son of a lawyer and was a law graduate himself. He had leanings towards theatre and met his future wife Roopa and future co-star Shabana Azmi on the stages of St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai.

Hello Atuldom
She was a child star to start with, facing the camera for the first time, probably at the age of 8 or 9 in 1948. Her father was a successful actor-producer-director of his time, but his death at a young age had this Baby becoming a child actress so that she could support her family. I am referring to Master Vinayak Damodar Karnataki’s daughter Nanda Karnataki a.k.a Nanda.

i am just unable too stay away from the blog.
7th March is the 65th birthday of a highly versatile actor who goes by the name Anupam Kher. His journey in Bollywood began with a movie, where as a 28-year-old, he portrayed the character of a 65 year old senior whose son dies in the US and the senior has to struggle his way through corrupt excise officers to get the mortal remains of his son released from cargo. Anupam was excellent in that role and he won all awards possible in that year. But what followed this success was- he was stuck portraying characters much older than his calendar age- Madhuri Dixit’s father in Tezaab, Anil Kapoor (who is a year younger to Anupam) had Anupam playing his grandfather in Vijay (1988). As if playing Anil Kapoor’s grandfather was not enough his character was father to Hema Malini and Raj Babbar, father in law to Rajesh Khanna and Moushmi; and finally even Rishi Kapoor’s grandfather. The only other actor (in my knowledge) who has played older character with elan is Sanjeev Kumar.
