Clearly the adage “once bitten, twice shy” doesn’t apply to Atulites.

At least not to Batulites (Bengaluru-based Atulites).

Otherwise there’s no reason they’d ask me to post a write-up on the blog, describing the recent gangout event. The last time I wrote a post on a Bengaluru gangout, it was more than six months after the event! By then, I’d forgotten some details – and possibly many had lost interest. 🙂

Readers of this blog might now be familiar with a certain pattern of posts on this blog.

While there are posts which focus largely on the song, or the film, or even personal anecdotes, one common pattern is the celebration of anniversaries and milestones, in a post.

The anniversaries are our way of paying tribute to the artiste concerned. Whoever the artiste, whether a composer or lyricist or actor, whatever his level of fame in the industry, we try to remember and honour him on his birth or death anniversary.

I joined the Blog sometime in July 2011 and I have completed 5 years of my association with the Blog. How the wheel of time passes so quickly!  Atul ji, the founder of this Blog, must have also felt the same when he realised that this Blog would be completing its 3000th day today (4th October 2016).

Congratulations to Atul ji and his bandwagon for reaching another milestone of running this Blog for 3000 days. I had said in my couple of earlier write-ups as well as in the comments section in the Blog that it is not an easy task to run a Blog with a commitment to discuss at least one song per day.  It is most gratifying to note during my 5 years of association with the Blog that Atul ji has almost adhered to that commitment. If one goes by the daily average of the postings of the songs, the Blog has attained over 4 songs per day.  This is a unique Blog in the sense that it has not remained ‘dormant’ even for a day!

Wow and wow, what a song. Same story, same pattern – production house is obscure, film is obscure, actors not so well accepted as grade A material, music director not so well recognized as top of the line. And that is where we find some the most titillating gems of music. Under different circumstances, this song could have been top of charts. E.g. if this song was performed on screen by, say, Shammi Kapoor, well then it would have been treated as a hit, and would have found its place in the listings of timeless classics of Rafi Sb’s fun songs.

इकतारा बोले॰॰॰ तुन तुन

There is an interesting aside related to this iconic song from the 1970 film ‘Yaadgaar’. This song was originally written as a romantic song with the lines

रात अकेली साये दो
हुस्न भी हो और इश्क़ भी हो
तो फिर उसके बाद

It was selected by Manoj Kumar for his seminal classic ‘Upkar’. Eventually, this song somehow could not be fitted into the storyline. The song remained in suspended state, till Manoj Kumar revived it three years later, got it modified into a song of social messaging, and included it in his film ‘Yaadgaar’. After spending two and a half decades practically in the wilderness in the industry, here came the first major super hit for the song writer. This surely must be a record of some sorts.
