In olden days there used to be movies with titles like “School Girl” (1947), “School Master” (1959), ‘College Girl” (1960) etc. It shows that education, especially for girls, was considered important those days. 😀

These days I have become interested in statistics regarding Rafi Lata duets. I have mentioned that Rafi and Lata figured in some 410 plus duets. Their very first duet was recorded in 1947 and it was for a movie called “Shaadi Se Pehle” (1947). It was followed by a one year hiatus and then they recorded as many as 17 duets in 1949.

Here is one more offering from the film ‘Tilasmi Duniya’ (1946). Recordings from this movie have been obscure and missing from decades. In this era of online publications, the only reason a particular item is not available online, could be that the item is of absolutely no interest, or that it is completely obscure or even lost. That seems to be the situation with these records also. It is just providential that I found these records in the collection of a good friend of mine; and he thankfully agreed to share the recording.

“Kangan” (1939) is a movie starring Ashok Kumar, Leela Chitnis,Mubarak, Vasant Desai (who later became a well known music director) etc.
This movie apparently had two music directors who composed a few songs each. They were Ramchandra Pal and Saraswati Devi. In the past, I have discussed one song from this movie which was composed by Ramchandra Pal.

“Shaadi Se Pehle” (1947) was a movie produced by Raja Nene Productions, Bombay and it had actors like Ranjna,Rajan,Vasant Thengri,Raja Nene, Leela Gadkar,Gokhale,Dixit,Bargir,Jivaji Kulkarni etc in it. This movie was also known by an alternative title viz “Juye Ka Nateeza” (meaning Evils of gambling)

“Rajdhani” (1956) is a by now obscure movie. This movie had Sunil Dutt and Nimmi in lead roles.

The movie was produced under the banner of Jupiter Art Pictures, Bombay and directed by AM Khan. The listed star cast for this movie is S Kulkarni, Sarla Devi, Sita Devi, Shiraaz, Rampyaari, Agha Peerjaan, Rafiq, Madhukar Gupte, Narmada Shankar, Mehndi Raja, Ansari. Normally it is believed that old songs are obscure songs and new songs are better known songs. But that is not always the case. I find that several recent songs (anything created in 1970s and later are recent by the standards of this blog. 😀 ) have been forgotten in double quick time.
