Hullo Atuldom

My family and some members of this world of Atulsongaday, which I like to refer to as Atuldom, know my love for a few actors from the Hindi Film World. Specially the actors who graced the silver screen in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. Many of the actors of that period are in the 60 to 75/80+ age group. Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Rekha, Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Jaya Bhaduri, Dharmendra, some actors played character roles in that period etc. when they make an appearance on reality television I make it a point to see those episodes and on repeat if possible.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No.27
———————————————————–

The story of Shakuntala which is based on a classic Sanskrit play ‘Abjijanashakuntalam’ written by Kalidas has been one of the favourites of film makers. Two silent films with the title ‘Shakuntala’ were made in 1920 – one directed by Suchet Singh and the other by Shrinath Patankar. In 1929, Fatma Begum also directed a silent film with the same title. With the advent of sound film in 1931, two films were released with the same title in 1931 – one directed by Mohan Bhavnani and the other by J J Madan. Sarvottam Badami of Sagar Movietone directed ‘Shakuntala’ (1932) in Telugu. Jyotish Banerjee directed ‘Shakuntala’ (1941) in Bengali.

Hullo Atuldom

Let me begin with a confession. I am very bad at buying gifts. As a youngster, dependent on pocket money, I used to make do with buying greeting cards and either posting it to my near and dear or hand-delivery (which was cheaper). Things were kind of simple. Things were simpler if I could find someone to share expenses. Oh yes, those days people used to share or go-dutch (I am sure that is not the correct expression in the scenario of buying greeting cards, but for want of a better word), at least in my circle, then I used to buy some fancier cards. There was a category of people for whom the gifting used to be a card accompanied by some memorabilia or chocolates etc. It was similar at the time of my birthdays too and I have almost all the cards I received saved up and I access them occasionally and remember those days. In fact I have even saved up the cards which my kids received in the first few years of their life. But things have changed with the turn of the millennium, decade etc.

Blog ten year challenge (2010-2020)- Song Number 85
————————————————–

Atul ji has rightly mentioned in his post regarding BTYC posts coming up regularly, having taken precedence over other projects in the process. I think, on the other hand it is also helping bring movies bring closer to ‘Yippeeee’ and also helping movies getting noticed after an interval of couple or few years where the movies earlier were having some songs posted and took a back-seat thereafter without any reason.
