Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 23
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

OK, so introducing another popular song that got very quickly reused in a subsequent film. This raunchy item number surprised everyone when it came out for the first time. The film is ‘Inkaar’ from 1977. It was cops and robbers story – B-grade cinema but it was done very professionally, giving some true insight into the normal working of the police force.

This song, which is performed by Helen in the film, became very popular in its time. And the wonder part of this song was / is the voice that has rendered it. The voice is of Usha Mangeshkar. One does not hear her voice in item numbers. Maybe part of a twin dance duet singing. But not an out and out item song. Somehow the selection of his voice for the setting clicked absolutely well. The setting of the song in the original film is a roadside tavern – a desi daaru ka adda. A counter for selling liquor and some chairs and tables for the clients to enjoy their glass that cheers. The dancer, Helen, is very much in the native Maharashtrian attire, wearing the dhoti in the typical lavangi style. The scenario, the persona – the singing voice suited everything to a T.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 71
———————————————————————————–

This date ten years ago (viz 5 september 2010) saw business as usual in the blog. Six songs from six movies were discussed chronologically in the order in which these movies were released.
Here are the details:-

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Mat bolo bahaar ki batiyaan re Prem Nagar-1940 11 songs covered out of 13
Udan khatole pe ud jaaun Anmol Ghadi-1946 All songs covered
Aadmi gareeb ho ya ameer ho … sambhaalo dil zaraa Dil Bhi Tera Ham Bhi Tere-1960 All songs covered
Begaani shaadi mein Abdullah deewaanaa Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai-1960 All songs covered
Ho more gore badan pe gulaabi nazariyaa na daal Sikandar E Azam-1965 03 songs posted
Sansaar ki har shai ka itna hi fasaanaa hai Dhundh-1973 All songs covered

One can see that “Prem Nagar”(1940) and “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) are the only two movies from that day which still have a few songs left to be covered. “Prem Nagar”(1940) balance songs are not available, so that leaves us with “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) as the only movie eligible for the “Blg Ten Year Challenge” today ten years later on 5 september 2020.

Recently “Baazigar”(1972) was introduced in the blog. But this introduction was rather different. The song that was used to introduce the movie was actually a song from an earlier movie and this song plays in “”Baazigar”(1972) only as a “recording” song. I thought that the music directors of the two movies must be common. But I was wrong. When I checked up, I found that the music team of “Baazigar”(1972) was entirely different from the music team of the songsong discussed.

(#Music Composer-Singer-Bappi Lahiri#1)

Welcome all, to this post which is another of those posts of mine that was planned way back (in February 2019, to be precise)when I presented a song from the 1977 movie ‘Paapi’.

Music for this movie ‘Paapi-1977’ was composed by Bappi Lahiri. Though I had not watched this movie ‘Paapi-1977’, I liked the song that I then presented. Today’s song, also by Bappi Lahiri, came up in the list of suggestions that appeared in ‘YouTube’ with that song.

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 9
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Ah ha, even this song. 🙂

The film is ‘Alag Alag’ from 1985. Repeating an iconic song from the 1969 film ‘Aradhna’. And surely, the important thing to note is that the repeat would have involved no negotiations etc. The director, Shakti Samant, and the song writer Anand Bakshi, are the same. The producer of ‘Aradhna’ is Shakti Samant, and the producer of ‘Alag Alag’ is Rajesh Khanna, who incidentally appears in both the films. The music director of ‘Aradhna’ is SD Burman, and the music director for ‘Alag Alag’ is his son, RD Burman. I would believe that getting permission to repeat this song would have been quite easy. 🙂

“Ummeed”(1971), though described as a 1971 release in HFGK, appears to be a movie of early 1960s, which for some reasons was released late. This movie was directed by Nitin Bose for Rajan Films, Bombay. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Nanda, Joy Mukherji, Leela Naidu, Tarun Bose, Leela Mishra, Chandrima Bhaduri, Hazara Singh, Parashram, Husaain, Ravikant, Nazeer Kashmiri, Ramesh, Laxmi Chhaya, Jeewankala, Madhumati, Jankidas, Sabita Chatterji, Tunyun, Agha etc in it.

5th March, 2009. As many as nine song posted on that day. Of course, from 9 different films. And guess what, over the years, eight of these films have been yippeee’d already. The films are

  • ‘Shahjehaan’ from 1946,

  • ‘Kaala Pani’ from 1958,
  • ‘Goonj Uthi Shehna’ from 1959,
  • ‘Umar Qaid’ from 1961,
  • ‘Bin Baadal Barsaat’ and ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ from 1963,
  • and then ‘Anubhav’ from 1971,
  • and lastly ‘Raja Jaani’ from 1972.

Except for the last listed film above, all the other eight films that appeared on that day have all their songs posted here. And so the only option left to present a 10 year challenge post is a song from ‘Raja Jaani’ from 1972.

Missing Films of 1960s – 89
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The year that we are currently exploring is 1970. And I am surprised to be coming across so many films that at least I have not been familiar with. It would have been the period that listening to the radio would have already started. However, this film does not ring a bell at all.
