Hindi film industry has given rise to several controversies, some of them are settled, some are forever a question mark and some controversies come up again and again with the slightest of provocation. Today (26 january 2013) is the 63rd Republic day of India. Though India had gained political freedom two years back on 15 august 1947, it was on 26 january 1950 that Indian constitution came into existence in India which defined the future course of action for this country. This document- the Indian constitution has since held the nation together and united and the country, despite facing extremely difficult challenges over the decades, has come a long way in the path of progress and development.

The other day someone commented on this blog, that “Dosti” (1964) is a film which has all but one songs sung by Rafi. The commentor had also queried if Atul ji could name a film with all song sung by Rafi. When I saw that comment, the first movie that came to my mind was ‘Sargam'(1980). With Rishi Kapoor singing all the songs and Jaya Prada playing a mute girl, it had 7 songs, 3 Rafi solos and 4 Rafi-Lata Duets. Than I remembered that even ‘Laila Majnu” had all but one Rafi song.

“Kinaara” (1977) was produced by Pranlal Mehta and directed by Gulzar. Jeetendra and Hema Malini were in lead roles in this movie. Dharmendra (Guest appearance), Dr Shreeram Laagoo, Om Shivpuri, Dina Pathak etc were also there in this movie.

Music director Rai Chand Boral (1903-81) is credited with bringing playback to Hindi cinema with the number “Main khush hona chaahoon khush ho na sakoon”, a chorus song in the New Theatre production Dhoop Chhaaon (1935). A personna no less than the doyen of Hinsustani Cine Sangeet, the late Anil Biswas, reportedly complimented Boral, recepient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1978, as the Father of Indian Cinema Music.
