“Pagla Kahin Ka” (1970) was produced by Ajit Chakravorty and directed by Shakti Samanta.The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Asha Parekh, Sunder, Helen, Prem Chopra, Madhumati, K. N. Singh, Murad, Manmohan Krishna, Madhavi, Mohan Choti, Viju Khote etc in it.

“Puraskaar” (1970) was produced and directed by Ram Kumar. This movie had Joy Mukherjee, Sapna, Fariyal, Abhi Bhattacharya, Farida Jalal, Mahendra, Nigar Sultana, Helen, I. S. Johar, Bipin Gupta, Ram Kumar etc in it. This movie may not be remembered today, but it was quite an interesting movie as Memsaab found.

I first became aware of Prem Dhawan in 1970s as the lyricist of the immortal patriotic song Jahan daal daal par sone ki chidiya karti hai baseraa from Sikandar e Azam. This song was composed by Hansraj Bahl. Subsequently I got to hear a few more songs which were written by Prem Dhawan and composed by Hansraj Bahl. Then I became aware of “Shaheed” (1965) and “Pavitra Paapi”(1970), where Prem Dhawan was the lyricist as well as the music director. And what nice song these two movies had !

“Yeh Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai” (1966) was a R K Nayyar Films production. It was produced and directed by R K Nayyar. The movie had Joy Mukherjee, Saira Bano, Ashok Kumar, Madan Puri, Motilal, Badri Prasad, Manmohan etc in it.

We have discussed a couple of songs from “Teesri Kasam” (1966) recently. In the course of that discussion, I have learnt the story of the novel called “Maare Gaye Gulfaam” which was picturised as “Teesri Kasam”. The movie has faithfully reproduced the flavour of the novel. The movie failed to find favour with the majority of the moviegoers during its first release, but the re-releases have seen the movie doing better.

“Nazraana”(1961) was a Venus Pictures Production. It was directed by C Sridhar and the movie had Raj Kapoor, Vyjayanthimala, Usha Kiran, Sabita Chatterjee, Gemini Ganesan, Agha, Niranjan Sharma, Achala Sachdev, Master Shahid etc in it.

We are all very familiar with the ‘mujra’ form of dance performance. And there are umpteen songs in Hindi films that apply to this genre. The setting basically is either a family gathering for a social event, or it is the place of the dancing girl. All the famous dancers on Hindi screen have done some very wonderful ‘mujra’ songs on the screen.

The movie had Kishore Kumar, Kalpana, Shashi Kapoor, Rajshree(South), Mehmood, Mumtaz, Om Prakash, Chaman Puri, Shivraj,Shyamlal, Veena Kumari, N.S.Bedi, V.D.Puranik etc. The movie turned out to be a big box office success.
