Here is another gem of a song from the 1964 movie Hameer Hatth. This is a semi classical composition, rendered so well by Manna Dey. The composoition is by Sanmukh Babu Upadhyaya, and the beautiful lyrics in chaste Hindi, are by Neelkanthh Tiwari. The words are just beautiful, and need a careful listen.

Hanste raho laakh aaye gham

“Saugandh”(1961) was directed by G K Ramu for Hariharan Films, Madras. The movie had Anjali Devi, Gemini Ganeshan, M. N. Nambiar, P. S. Veerappa, M. N. Rajam, Kamala Laxman, M. Saroja, P. S. Venkatachalam etc in it. From the cast, it looks like a South Indian movie dubbed in Hindi and its original songs translated and recorded in Hindi.

“Naqli Nawaab” (1962) is a movie starring Manoj Kumar and Shakila. The movie itself may not be any great shakes and even its music may have been forgotten with time, but the music of this movie is quite wonderful to listen to, as I have discovered recently.

I was not aware of this movie called “Do Dilon Ki Daastaan” (1966) till recently. I wonder why . This movie has such nice songs in it and it should have been much better known. This movie had Pradeep Kumar and Vyjyantimala in lead roles.

Do dil toote do dil haare

I became aware of the movie “Heer Ranjha” (1970) in 1974, while going through movie magazines, which incidentally were supposed to be out of bounds for school kids barely in their teens. 🙂 But I was a kid who loved reading all kinds of publications, including screenplays of movies too. Yes, those days screenplays of movies used to get published too. I read screenplays of “Bobby” (1973) and “Aasheerwaad” (1968). I never watched these movies and I never thought that I missed anything by not watching them, that is how vivid the screenplays used to be.

“Jab Yaad Kisi Ki Aati Hai” (1967) is a movie which I tended to confuse with “Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai” (1961). Not any longer, I hope.

There are many songs in the movies that are for the children, and many of them are sung by children. Then there is another set of songs wherein bachpan (childhood) is being bid a goodbye and there is a welcome to youth, of the ilk “Ja Ja Ja Mere Bachpan, Kahin Jaa Ke Chhup Nadaan” from movie ‘Junglee’.
