Hullo to all in Atuldom
“Dil Ka Nazraana Le O Dildaar Le” – this was the debut post of the 1973 movie “Chalaak” which was directed by someone called RK Banerjee. All these years I had only heard this song. Thanks to the ongoing ten-year challenge series I landed on the post of the song which had been popular in the 70s and is still heard on Vividh Bharti (All India Radio), I learnt that it was a Kiran Kumar – Radha Saluja song, which movie etc.
I landed on that post because of this “Mann Gaaye Wo Taraana“. Now this is another song that was popular on the radio in those days and is still heard sometimes on radio. I learnt that this is a piano song with Alka at the piano and Kiran Kumar in a jeep.

Welcome all to this special occasion where we are now celebrating Fifteen thousand song-posts on the blog!!! My heartiest congratulations to Atul ji, Sudhir ji and our respected senior and other team members on the blog and to all of our readers and well-wishers of this blog.
Well, my ‘love story’ (‘Prem Kahaani’, pehle ‘affair’ likhnewaala tha, phir ‘relationship’, phir thhik karke ‘love story’ likha 🙂 ) with this blog started around 2009 and it was because of Sahir Saab’s song ‘Dil Karta O Yaara Dildaara Mera Dil Karta’ (which I was looking because it was in my memory and nostalgic for me). So, thanks are very much due to Sahir Saab and I thank him for that. (I am sure he is accepting it there 🙂 )

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 26

Ten years ago, this day – the score card was six films, and six songs. The songs posted on that day are listed below.

Out of the six films, five films have since been Yippeee’d on the blog. I notice this interesting push for completing songs of a film. It seems that the preference is always to complete songs of films from 1950s and 1960s. Most of the time, when we are searching for a suitable selection for this Ten Years Challenge series, the films with songs pending are most likely to be not from 1950s and 1960s. I think it is a combination of preference for the melody and music of those two decades, plus the availability. On these two counts, the films from 1950s and 1960s would score the highest, and hence their quicker movement towards Yippeee status.

Blog Ten Year Challenge (2009-2019)–Song number 24

Nowadays, we generally believe that the golden era of HFM lasted from 1949 till 1980 and after that the general standards of HFM fell down several notches, never to recover again.
When I was growing up in 1970s, I felt that this deterioration of HFM had started in 1970s itself. Some of the songs that later were considered classics were regarded by mediocre by me during those days. For instance, the songs of “Do Chor”(1972) were mediocre for me. Song like Yaari ho gayi yaar se lak tunoo tunoo was jarring to my ears. “Sanyaasi” (1974) songs were downright mediocre as far as I was concerned.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
So, there is this thing called the 10-year challenge going-on on Facebook, at least I saw a few of my friend’s post “Then and Now” pictures. Atulji also has started something similar on the blog with this post “Inteha Ho Gai Intezaar Ki“. I found this more inspiring to participate in and I was thinking of how my association with this blog began exactly 10 years ago when my daughter stumbled on to this blog (I know I have mentioned this a number of times, sorry for repeating). Then she saw that Atulji is kind enough to post songs requested by readers (followers) – there is a dedicated ‘farmaishes’ page on the blog.

“Aarambh”(1976) was directed by Gyan Kumar for Prerna Pictures, Calcutta. This obscure social movie had Rakesh Pandey, Rama Vij, Kishore Kapoor, Bipin Gupta, Rohin Kumar, Kalyan Chatterji, Chandrakala, M L Daga, Trilochan Jha, Nanu, B P Tiwari, Madan Sudan, Ravi Yagnik, Surendra Gupta, Tej Bahadur, C R Tenani, Naval Joshi, Akhtar, Gayatri Mukherji, Laxmi Chaaya etc with Master Piyush (new discovery) and Pallavi Mehta (guest role) etc in it.
