Kishore Kumar and Mumtaz were signed up for a movie called “Pyaar Deewaana” in 1966 when both were relatively small time players in Bollywood scheme of things. The makers of the movie were equally small time players who had signed up small time artists for other tasks viz lyrics writing, music direction etc too and the shooting of this movie progressed at snail’s pace.

“Sahib Bahadur” (1977) was one of the forgettable movies of Dev Anand. Incidentally, it was a remake of another Dev Anand movie called “Afsar” (1950) which was presumably less forgettable.

Do lafzon ki hai dil ki kahaani

“The Great Gambler” was an Amitabh Bachchan movie that was pronounced a damp squib when it was released in 1979. That came as a surprise to me because I found it a more watchable movie than many of the supposedly successful Amitabh Bachchan movies like “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar”, “Suhaag” etc.

Dev Anand was well past his sell by date as a hero in 1970s, but Dev Saab did not realise that and continued to act in one flop movie after another. In the process, many nice songs picturised on him suffered the same fate as the movie.

Jaaneman tum kamaal karti ho

In Bollywood movies, hero and heroines would traditionally meet in gardens and would be going round the trees, much like gorillas or chimps going through their mating rituals. Being more evolved than the apes, they would sing a duet while running around trees.
