Hullo Atuldom

“Saudaagar” released on 26th october 1973, that means it is 15-days short of 47 years ago. The movie had Nutan paired with Amitabh Bachchan (he was yet to taste success, when he signed up for the movie). He played a ‘Gur’ trader who made a living out of ‘gur’ made from Date-syrup by Mahzubeen -a widow played by Nutan. He meets Phoolbanu (Padma Khanna), likes her, and approaches her father with a marriage proposal. Phoolbanu’s father (Murad) asks for ‘Mehar’ which Moti (AB) does not have. So he proposes marriage to Mahzubeen, so that he doesn’t have to pay her for the ‘gur-making’ and save up for the mehar by the end of the ‘gur-season’. At the end of the season he divorces Mahzubeen and again approaches Phoolbanu’s father who is satisfied with the mehar and Moti marries Phoolbanu. But he faces a problem when the ‘gur’ as the product made by Phoolbanu is not on the same level as the previous season and Moti loses customers and business. He is forced to seek out Mahzubeen who has by the married a widower who is honest to her that he wants a mother for his children. Moti requests her to make a few “vats of gur’ she is at first upset at him for the way he had treated her. She relents on seeing Phoolbanu and Moti’s pitiable condition. The movie ends with the two ladies meeting each other affectionately signifying that Mahzubeen had forgiven Moti’s selfishness for the sake of his family.

2733 Raaz e dil unse chhupaayaa naa gayaa Apna Banaake Dekho-1962 YIPPEED (all ten songs covered)
2734 Aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa Chhote Nawaab-1963 YIPPEED (All 8 songs covered)

Hullo Atuldom

Today’s song is sure to get a “How Come?” reaction from all concerned, even Atulji and Sudhirji will probably include it in the category of “How come this song was not posted earlier?” and “How did I forget to post this song earlier?”. Also I know we have fans of today’s song among the followers of the blog who will say “How did we miss it in all these 12 years of the blog?” I, who regularly try and send a song for the birthday and anniversary of the main actor in this song, also kept putting it off for God Knows what occasion!!!

But better late than never. And here is an all-time popular song.

Today’s song is from the 1974 movie ‘Hawas’. This movie is mostly known by its song “Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakkhenge Kadam“. I remember that this song was frequently played on radio and loud speakers in those years. And I too associate this movie only with this song and had never tried to listen to the other songs of this movie. And yes, I never get to watch this movie until now.

Hello Atuldom

I am back again with one more birthday post. I was aware of this date- 9th April. For additional reminder Avinashji played my alarm this time. Every year I make mental notes to wish this Bengali Beauty but on the run-up to the date I end up forgetting to write and send a song.

When I shared my experience of seeing the dream girl at Mumbai airport with my friends from school we had a major down-memory-lane session. We remembered who was whose fan at that young age of ours. And my friends were talking of how I was a die-hard Rekha fan and she herself was a Jaya Bhadhuri fan. Actually we were three of us and between us we had Rekha, Jaya and Hema as favourites and the other heroines of those time were also-rans in our opinion. Oh! to be that age again!!! Hope the song with post is liked by my girl-gang.

Four films in his debut year. An accomplishment that is not claimed by many other music directors. The year – 1966. And the films – ‘Thakur Jarnail Singh’, ‘Smuggler’, ‘Shera Daku’ and ‘Husn Aur Ishq’. And a sampler of hits from these films – the all time favorite “Hum Tere Bin Jee Na Sakenge Sanam”; the timeless Rafi Sb – Suman Kalyanour duet “Hum Jahaan Hai Wo Maqaam Husn Aur Ishq Hai”; the lilting Mukesh solo “Ae Mere Dil Teri Manzil”; the haunting Lata solo “Intezaar Ka Aalam, Tanhaai Aur Hum”; the racy cabaret number by Lata – “Dil Ka Lagaana Is Duniya Mein”. Songs all made memorable by the lilting tunes mixed with wonderful rhythm and orchestration – the music coming from the mind of Ganesh Prasad Sharma.

Remembering music director Ganesh – he passed away on 28th March, 2000. He was 58.

Hello Atuldom

She was a child star to start with, facing the camera for the first time, probably at the age of 8 or 9 in 1948. Her father was a successful actor-producer-director of his time, but his death at a young age had this Baby becoming a child actress so that she could support her family. I am referring to Master Vinayak Damodar Karnataki’s daughter Nanda Karnataki a.k.a Nanda.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 13
——————————————————————————

In olden days (even today for that matter) Indians were expected to behave in a particular manner. For instance, when it came to their day to day live, most of them were “gareeb” and they were told that they had the sole right on the resources of the nation in the form of doles aka subsidies. All political parties claimed to be pro poor parties and promised to “hataao” gareebi if voted to power. After repeatedly getting voted to power on the plank of hataaoing gareebi, the same politicians now claim to be for the “gareeb”. These “gareeb” are supposed to be gullible possessing short memory so the politicians can get away despite failing to fulfill their past promises.
