Jaidev Ki Non-Filmi Suraavali – 02
—————————————————-
I missed the birth anniversary of my dear Jaidev ji (3rd Aug), by not presenting a tribute to him. I also regretfully observed that same day on our blog, under to flood of songs of ‘KK’ by his fans, NO Atulite remembered Jaidev ji.

Today (7 august 2017) is the festival of Raakhi aka rakshabandhan. This festival is being celebrated from time immemorial, may be for more than two thousand years or so. Some interesting tales regarding this festival are mentioned in various sources. It would see that amulets were tied by women on men (not necessarily their brothers) for mens’ protection in ancient times. It was later that this practice took the present day form of sisters tying it on brothers’ wrist.

This article is the 13500th song post for the blog.
In our discussion of HFM, words of shringaar ras like “pyaar”, “Prem”, “ishq” etc dominate, as can be seen from the category of songs in the blog. There are as many as 2635 songs (over 20 %) of the genre of “expression of love” in the blog. That tells the story.

Hullo to all Atulwaasis
Let us have a fun song from the 1981, Shomu Mukherjee produced & directed “Fiffty Fiffty” (and this is how fifty is spelt in the title card) which was certified on 15/10/1981 and released on 13/11/1981. It starred Rajesh Khanna and Tina Munim with Om Shivpuri (Bihari), Purnima (Mrs. Thakur), Amarnath (Thakur Vijendra Singh who is killed by Mr. Bihari before the titles), IndraniMukerjee (Mrs. Bihari who becomes dumb due to Mr. Bihari), Jairaj, Anita Guha, Nazir Hussain, Johny Whisky, CS Dubey, Jankidas, Jagdeep, Mushtaq Merchant, Kader Khan and Ranjeet. Dialogues were by Kader Khan. Anand Bakshi wrote the songs and Laxmikant-Pyarelal were the music directors.

Today (9 july 2017) is the birth anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar (9 july 1938-6 november 1985), one of the true legendary actors of Hindi cinema.
Today, he would have been 79 – but sadly, he didn’t even get to live to the age of 50. He was just 47 when a heart attack took him away from this world, and from millions of his fans. Just like Guru Dutt (also coincidentally born on the 9th of July and who died way too early), Sanjeev Kumar’s death left a void in Hindi cinema.

Today, 21st June is designated as the World Music Day. The reminders checked in quite late in the afternoon today. The historical details about this event are available on the internet, and our dear Arun ji has also summarized them in a brief post on the Whatsapp group.
As I set down thinking about this event, and to search out an appropriate song for today, my mind almost immediately went to the 1985 film ‘Sur Sangam’. In my mind, this is probably the best film on the theme of classical music, in the recent decades. Times are past that classical music and the legends of this art form used to be the central themes of many a film, especially from the historical perspective, in the decades that coincide with the golden era of Hindi film music. Historical persona such as Tansen and Baiju, Narsi Mehta and Meerabai, Kalidas and Soordas, Kabir and Rani Roopmati have been central themes and central characters of many a film till the decade of 1970s. Beyond that, I cannot easily recall a film whose theme and storyline is based primarily on classical music.

May-June is the time when Indians or more importantly students and their parents are at their jitteriest. These are the months that the Indian education system has chosen to declare results of exams held in the months of February-March. Exams that puts the knowledge gained by students through the year to test. The students are required to revise everything learnt; in a year; in about a month of study leave (we as students had study leave of a month, I would love to know of the current scenario) and pour out everything in about 2½ to 3 hours; on to an answer sheet and then pray that what they have answered fetches them marks that are enough to get them further in life.

Genius of Jaidev – 60
——————————–
1982 color film ‘Trikon Ka Chautha Kon’ was produced, written and directed by Madhusudan. The main actors in the film are Vijayendra Ghatge, Swaroop Sampat and Priyadarshani who formed the triangle of the story. The film has four songs, written by Mahadevi Varma, Shahryar and Maya Govind, which are set to music by our genius Jaidev. In an earlier post, it was written that the film has only three songs, but the singer of the forth song Chhaya Ganguli, herself told me that her song “Kaise Un Ko Paaun Aalee” was definitely recorded for this film only and may be, was later removed from the DVD, VCD or video cassette.
