“Five Rifles” (1974) was produced and directed by I.S. Johar. I think it was also written by I.S.Johar. Anyone who used to see the movies in the 70s will recall that the male actors – won’t call them protagonist or heroes- were look-alikes of Shashi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna; credited in the movie’s titles as Shahi Kapoor and Rakesh Khanna. The others in the cast were Ambika Johar (in a double role), Veena, D.K. Sapru, Murad, Kamal Kapoor (in one of his many videshi, police commissioner acts), Anil Johar, Satyadeep etc. and I.S. Johar, of course. The songs of the movie were written by Rajinder Krishan and Indeevar.

Today 9th March’2022 is the one hundred and fifth birth anniversary of poet-lyricist Om Prakash Bhandari, popularly known to us as Qamar Jalalabadi (9th March 1917 – 9th January 2003).
On our blog, over four hundred songs written by him are already posted. As per blog statistics over three hundred songs penned by him are yet to be posted on the blog. We will be listening to them and bringing them here on the blog as ‘time’ and ‘circumstances permit us. 😊

Today 8th March, 2022 is the 101st birth anniversary of poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi (08.03.1921 – 25.10.1980).
As per statistics available he has written around 717 to 730 songs in Hindi Films. On our blog we have so far covered 704 songs penned by Sahir Ludhianvi. Around six to eight songs from the remaining songs seems to be difficult to find or they may not be available at all.

Hullo Atuldom
March 7th sees Anupam Kher, the versatile actor, turn a year older. He has played characters beyond his calendar age in numerous films. He has played the archetypal villain with as much finesse as serious supporting roles. He has also tried playing characters which are comic but of course some of these have been over-the-top and mostly making faces, using odd hair-get-ups etc. would be used to create comic effect. But I think we can excuse this fine actor of these excesses as he used to balance them by doing roles as in “Daddy” (1989), Utsav (1984), Karma (1986), Rao Saheb (1985), Kaash (1987), Zevar etc.

‘Ustaad Meraa Naam’ was a stunt movie. I had never heard the name of this movie or its’ songs earlier and it is only because of HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) that I got to know about this movie and its songs. This movie seems to be an obscure movie as none of its video is available on internet. Luckily the songs are available in the form of audios only.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Subah O Shaam’ (1972). This is one of the movies still missing on the blog. I became aware of this movie almost seven years back through HFGK when I got my first copy of HFGK i.e. HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980). I had then planned to present a Rafi song from this movie – “Meri Biwi Jahaan Se Niraali Hai”. I was actually looking for songs in the category ‘praising the wife/spouse song’; later on I dropped that idea (something for the good I think). Today I am presenting a duet song from this movie, which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar.
