Today (8 september 2019) is the birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika (8 September 1926 – 5 November 2011).
It is appropriate that we honour him in the blog with a song. Lyrics of the song (sent by Avinash Scrapwala) is there with me. When I listened to the song, I wanted to listen to the original Assamese song. That opened a Pandora’s box. I discovered such a goldmine of information about Bhupen Hazarika, Assam, Assamese culture and History etc that it became a case of information overload for me. Now I have so much information to discuss that I do not known where to begin.

Hullo to Atuldom
Today I have a very difficult task. The task of selecting one song from a possible 5251 (7874-2623 as per the stats page of the blog) is almost like needle in a hay stack. And there will be at least a few thousand popular songs in this 5k of which many will fall in the category of “How come…?”. Some may lead to their movies getting Yyippeeeed and some may introduce a new movie onto the blog.

Hullo to Atuldom
Today we wish the smart handsome light-eyed actor, producer, director, screen writer and editor Rakesh Roshan on his 70th birthday with lots of health and happiness- discovered as I sat to write this that he is also a cancer conqueror. Very heart-warming to learn that.
We all know that he started at a rather young age in the film industry as an assistant to Mohan Kumar during the making of “Anjaana” due to the untimely death of his father – Roshanlal Nagrath; the music director of “Baawre Nain” fame “Roshan”. (I don’t intend to list Roshan’s albums here).

“Jaane Jaana Yoon Na Dekho Aaj Nafrat Se Mujhe” – this lovely lilting from the 1963 film ‘Faulaad’, is the creation of the songwriter Anjaan. A poet who has given us some of the most wonderful gems of the Hindi screen. Today’s song is from an obscure, unknown, ‘Ç’ grade stunt film – Toofani Tirandaz-47. This film was made by Homi Wadia’s Basant Pictures, but, for a change, it was directed by Boman Shroff – who was a regular actor in Wadia’s stable, present in almost every film of Fearless Nadia, including today’s film. The cast of the film was Nadia, Prakash, Sayani Aatish, Boman Shroff, Sona Chatterjee, Mithu miyan, Krishnakant, Rajpoot(horse) and Austin ki Bachhi(a jalopy). The film had 8 songs, all written by Begum Aziz Minai ( her other film was Aabida-47 in which she wrote 3 songs). Music was composed by A.Karim.
