———————————————————————————–

The blog was maintaining a high daily strike rate of nearly 6 songs daily during september 2010, which got reduced to a daily rate of 3 songs per day from October 2010 onwards. This rate was sustained in November 2010 as well.

Song Movie title-Year Remarks

Sainyya chhod de bainyya Rakhi-1962 All songs covered
Badal rahi hai zameen badal rahaa hai aasmaan Fashionable Wife-1959 02 of 10 songs posted

We can see that only one out of the three movies from the above list can be taken up for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (1 November 2020). This movie, namely “Fashionable Wife”(1959) was produced and directed by B K Adarsh for Adarshlok, Bombay. Hello everyone,

My appearances here on the blog are becoming increasingly infrequent, not unlike the cameo visits of an MP/MLA to his constituency post-elections. 🙂

I will not get into reasons for my long absence from here – no excuses. Mea culpa.

As usual, my appearance here marks a special occasion.
This time it has to do with Sahir Ludhianvi’s death anniversary.

Recently,(12th of July’2020 to be precise) the blog saw the 5000th song from the decade 1951-1960 covered on the blog.

This ‘melodious decade’ has around ten thousand songs (as per HFGK) and if we look from that point of view we are just at the ‘half-way mark’ (or little above now as the songs are getting added frequently to this decade, thanks to the collaboration of our team members and also because of projects like Blog Ten Year Challenge.

Dancing has been an integral part of Indian cinema even during the era of silent films. In most of the silent films, dancing was mostly confined to courtesans which the society saw it in a negative way. It was only after sound films came in 1931, the film makers started looking for actors who could also sing and dance. So, multi-tasking was the buzz word for the main actors during the early period of sound films. Some actors like Mumtaz Ali, Sunita Devi, Shahzaadi etc were known for their dancing skills though they also acted in supporting roles. Even some lead actors like Molina Devi of New Theatres (remember her dance in ‘Kaarwaan-e-Hayat’, 1935), Radha Rani of Bombay, Mumtaz Shanti and even Leela Chitnis in the film ‘Kanchan’ (1941) were required to dance as part of their roles. By the start of 1940, Sadhana Bose from Bengal joined Hindi films as a classical dancer in the lead/supporting roles.

30/08/2020 – Birth anniversary of Shailendra

As children’s songs go, there is a healthy dose available of such songs in hindi films especially in the 50’s and 60’s. Or rather, I should say a healthy dose of children’s songs too along with the other types of songs be it religious songs, happy go lucky masti songs, romantic songs, sad songs, club/party songs, dance/folk/stage songs, road-side tamasha songs, comic songs and the philosophical/theme songs. Not to forget the lori/lullaby songs. Good quality songs were many and all the songs were made with painstaking care. So there is nothing like finding unheard songs. They may not remain in memory some months after the actual post is done, because the memory I find is a very fickle thing. It retains the information fed to it years ago, but is rather quick to do away with recently found and heard things. This is no fault of the songs concerned.
