Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 7

On this day ten years ago (viz on 20 february 2009), six songs from six different movies were presented. Four of these movies have since been YIPPEED in the blog. Of the remaining two movies, one is from 1938 and another is from 1983. The 1938 movie (Shreet Singer) has two songs left to be covered and these songs are not available as far as I am aware.
So that leaves us with the 1983 movie viz “Sweekaar Kiya Maine” as the only eligible movie for our blog 10 year challenge.

Muzzafar Ali, the producer-director of some of the parallel films has been very proud of the Awadhi culture. His father was the raja of Kotwara which is located in Lakhimpur Kheri district, a part of Awadh region. Moreover, he had completed his schooling in Lucknow, the centre of Awadhi culture. His sensibility towards Awadhi culture can be judged from his films, Gaman’ (1978), ‘Umrao Jaan’ (1981), Aagaman’ (1984), ‘Anjuman’ (1986) and the last one, “Jaanisaar’ (2015) with Awadh as background. “More than a ‘royal’, I am ‘loyal’ to my root – Awadh” says Muzzafar Ali.

“Sautan” (1983) was produced and directed by Sawan Kumar Tak. Tghe movie was a “social” movie starring Rajesh Khanna, Padmini Kolhapure, Tina Munim, Pran, Prem Chopra, Shreeram Lagoo, Shashikala, Paresh Rawal, Vijay Arora, Satyendra Kapooo, Roopesh Kumar, Yunus Parvez, T P Jain etc in it.

Hullo Atuldom
Today is the first birth date, after the death of a personality who passed away at the age of 79 in December 2017. He retired from in front of the camera in 1999 after nearly 58 years of active Bollywood life. Amitabh Bachchan held him in high esteem and was always grateful to him for co-starring in ‘Deewar’ (1975) in a kind of second-hero role inspite of being much more senior and popular actor at the time when that film was being made.

“Muqaddar Ki Baat” was produced by Bimla L Khaitan and directed by Kamal H Thakur. The movie had Neeta Mehta, Deepak Parashar, Rameshwari etc in it. This movie never saw the light of the day, though its records were released in 1983. There were eight songs in a 33 RPM record. These songs were sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Pushpa Pagdhare. Indeewar, Noor Ahmad and Bimla Khaitan (producer) were the three lyricists. Music was composed by O P Nayyar. Mahendra Kapoor had three solos, Pushpa Pagdhare had two solos, while there were three duets by the two.
