Hullo Atuldom
The 80s was a period when there were a whole set of “Made in South” movies. Movies essentially remakes of popular and successful Telugu, Tamil and Kannada movies. Movies with nearly same formula- one hero and two heroines, both ladies loving the hero equally with the hero behaving courteously with one and loving the other passionately. To add further twist, the heroines will be sisters (as in Tohfa), childhood best friends (as in Raaste Pyar Ke), or meet accidentally and become good friends (as in Maang Bharo Sajna and Asha Jyoti).

“Jaane Jaana Yoon Na Dekho Aaj Nafrat Se Mujhe” – this lovely lilting from the 1963 film ‘Faulaad’, is the creation of the songwriter Anjaan. A poet who has given us some of the most wonderful gems of the Hindi screen. Songs like “Pipraa Ke Patwaa Sarikhe Doley Manwaa” (‘Godaan’, 1963), “Bahaaro Thaam Lo Ab Dil, Mera Mehboob Aata Hai”(‘Namaste ji’, 1965), “Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe Aaj Nayaa Noor Hai”(‘Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi’, 1966), “Aaj Tumse Door Ho Kar, Aise Royaa Mera Pyaar”(‘Ek Raat’, 1967), and “Bina Badraa Ke Bijuriyaa Kaise Chamke”(‘Bandhan’, 1969) – and on to “Rotey Huye Aate Hain Sab, Hansta Hua Jo Jaayegaa. . .”(‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, 1978), “Maano To Main Ganga Maa Hoon, Naa Maano Te Behtaa Paani”(‘Ganga Ki Saugandh’, 1978), “O Khaike Paan Barnaaras Waala” (‘Don’, 1978), “Pag Ghunghroo Baandh Meera Naachi Thi” (‘Namak Halaal’, 1982), “Gori Hain Kalaayi’aan, Tu La De Mujhe Hari Hari Choodiyaan” (‘Aaj Ka Arjun’, 1990). Peevesie’s mom is one blog regular who keeps in touch with me on phone almost on a regular basis. Nearly one month ago, she phoned to enquire whether my daughter was at Mumbai seeing that summer vacations had started in Mumbai colleges. So I informed her that my daughter, and also my wife, were on their way to join me for their respective vacations.
So it came as no surprise to Peevesie’s mom when my posts during the last month were reduced to a trickle.

It is such a delight to ferret out unheard songs from obscure and unfamiliar films. So many times, I come across the film names and then move on because it is unfamiliar. So many times I pause at a film folder in my collection, thinking whether I have opened it before. But then usually, other pressing matters take precedence and I say ‘oh well’, and move on.
