On this occasion we remember him and celebrate his birth anniversary by listening to songs composed by him. That way we pay our humble tributes to this great genius who ruled Hindi Film Music from the seventies to mid-eighties.

Here is a song from “Chambal Ki Raani” (1979) which was directed by Radhakant produced by Raghunandan (censor certificate on 2.11.1979).
It had a cast of Mahendra Sandhu, Bindu, Dara Singh, Jagdeep, Narendranath, Chand Usmani, Amjad Khan, Kamal Kapoor & Urmila Bhatt (in special appearances), etc. It had music by Naushad. Jan Nissar Akhtar & Majrooh Sultanpuri were the lyricists. The movie had only Lata Mangeshkar and Mohd. Rafi for playback.

Today’s song is a multi-singer song. It is from the 1976 released Madan Mohla produced and directed “Dus Numbri”. It had Hema Malini {who seemed to be favourite of all the heroes of the 50s & 60s and wanted a lease in their career 😉 } Manoj Kumar and a whole lot of Manoj Kumar-movie-regulars viz Premnath, Pran, Kamini Kaushal and Bindu. “Shankar Shambu” (1976) was directed by Chand for AK Movies and had Feroz Khan, Vinod Khanna, Sulakshna Pandit, Bindu, Jagdeep, Ajit, Anwar Hussain, Pradeep Kumar, Sulochana, Jayshree T. Jankidas, Sudhir, Lalita Pawar, Viju Khote etc. It was a bandit story which is in my list of movies to be seen. This movie had five songs three of which have been posted on this blog. All the songs were written by Sahir Ludhianvi a favorite lyricist of a few followers of this blog.

Recently “Baazigar”(1972) was introduced in the blog. But this introduction was rather different. The song that was used to introduce the movie was actually a song from an earlier movie and this song plays in “”Baazigar”(1972) only as a “recording” song. I thought that the music directors of the two movies must be common. But I was wrong. When I checked up, I found that the music team of “Baazigar”(1972) was entirely different from the music team of the songsong discussed.

And so, we do get to a song in Saigal Sb’s voice song in this series. Memory serving right, I would have preferred to start the series with this song. But oh well. Actually, we do have a Saigal Sb song earlier in this series. But that song – “Babul Mora, Naihar Chhooto Hi Jaaye”, is rerecorded in Jagjit Singh Chitra Singh voices.
Remembering the memorable singer KL Saigal Sb – it is 73 years today, since this Divine Voice departed from this mortal world. The singer has gone away, his voice, the sound captured in the songs recorded by him, are still alive.
